they might, quite reasonably, not expect "Jesus Christ, Superstar" to be taught as doctrine.Not necessarily - I've heard of the play being performed in a fair number of Catholic schools; and as others here have mentioned, the music is beginning to show up in regular services as well.
Even then, the imposition of their beliefs shouldn't be pushed onto the school. Based on that, I have to agree with you on one note -- she's obviously better off not there.

There is a problem when people start allowing uninspired hymns in worship.....it is not too long before people are having musicals in church like you are describing. That is why people like myself only sing Psalms in worship. Only what God has ordained for worship is safe to be acceptable in His perfect sight.
But anyway, about the subject at hand, they weren't forcing their views on the school simply by trying to exempt their daughter.
