Brosnan Provokes Outrage

Pierce Brosnan has outraged Americans by stating the terrorist tragedy of September 11th will fade from people's minds. Families of the victims of the attack, which claimed 3,000 lives, have demanded an apology from the star, who said he would not steer clear from action movies with terrorism in the storyline following the terrorist action against America. He says, "The Bond films work exclusively by themselves. People go to these movies to escape from life. Hollywood is going to go back to making these kind of action movies. And September 11th will fade in people's minds because there is money to be made. It's about commerce." Stephen Push of the Famulies September 11 organization is outraged by the Irish born actor's comments - and has demanded a public apology. He says, "For a public figure like him to suggest the memory of that day will fade is irresponsible. Everyone in the public eye should be using their prominence to remind people of the event and not to become complacent. Mr. Brosnan should retract that unfortunate remark and make an apology".

After all, Antonio is no slouch in the looks department ...

The wife makes a POINT about that POINT everytime I watch that movie...Especially during the TANGO scene...Fred and Ginger got nothing on that scene!

I don't see Sean Connery's name mentioned in this article...

Nor do I see George Lazenby, Roger Moore, Timothy Dalton, or even David Niven or Peter Sellers!

Brosnan was already in over his head when he was Remington Steele.
And completely self-absorbed, of course.

These actors seem to hate business and America, even though they are in business IN America.

I see nothing in his words or the article that suggests Brosnan hates America? Where did you manage to glean that information from? What he speaks of is the truth. The memory is fading already and people are back to business as usual in this country. Want proof that Brosnan is right? Look at the box office receipts every weekend. They rake in millions every weekend.

For a bunch of Americans who are supposedly upset with the Hollywood crowd they sure pour their dollars into Hollywood pockets, don't they now? When I see Americans waking up and making protests with their wallets and their conscience's, then and only then will I begin to think this country hasn't forgot and learned it's lessons. Until then Brosnan got it right.

Yep, you're right, he was correct. Do I think we should forget - He** NO!

But on average, people in America have forgotten. They've become used to hearing about terrorist threats and they go about their daily lives. That's really not a bad thing, at least in part. We've got to keep "doing our thing" and drive the world's economy.

What troubles me is that the American people don't see the bigger danger that is told every day in the news: The American government is going to sieze unprecendented power FROM THE PEOPLE because of 9-11. In a way (Lord, I can't believe I'm typing this), one could be tempted to believe the accusations of Rep. Cynthia McKinney! Who and what stands to gain the most from terrorist activity?

Not the terrorists. They just get dead or hunted down and jailed. Who then? Who profits when the masses of people cry out in fear for protection? When the American people say "yes, search me and my house; search all my private documents and records. Just keep me safe!"

Who gains?

The memory of that day won't "fade" from memory.

It will be suppressed by the media that halted broadcasts of the burning buildings and malicious attacks within 3 days of 9/11. The same media that never once has showed a dead body from that tragedy.

Supressed by the media that reported that the muslim terrorists who took Christian hostages in the Church of the Nativity were "seeking asylum" and numbered them as "dozens" at a time when over 150 arabs had stormed the Church.

Supressed by the media (like AP) that refuses to call the 9/11 attackers "terrorists" in the name of "objective" reporting (because they lost some staff in the attack).

I could go on.

The world was a different place for the week after 9/11. Americans saw undeniable evil. Rather than roll up their sleeves, the instant gratification populace decided that they needed something else to focus on. Now we just deal with the same old pre-9/11 BS. Propaganda from the Demorats, celebrity cime trials, etc.

"Pierce Brosnan has outraged Americans by stating the terrorist tragedy of September 11th will fade from people's minds."

I hate to say this but, in many parts of this Country 911 is viewed as a B-Rated movie now. I was in California and parts west a few weeks ago. A B-Rated movie is exactly how people are seeing it. Until another attack hits hone and outside NYC, PA, and DC, I am afraid that many people will remain disconnected.

King Kong earned millions of dollars too during the depression when people were supposed to be broke and movies only cost a dime.

It is escapism and nothing more.

There will be no massive loss of rights any more than there was after the wars of the past. The losers will be the terrorists if the program is implemented with vigor since it will not be searching 80 yr olds but those who can be reasonably expected to lean towards trouble. Moslemaniacs were able to do this because the former criminal administration refused to do anything when it could have prevented much of this mischief.

There need be no intrusions into the lives of most Americans. And there won't be. But our enemies should dread the day that Americans become unified.

If there was no "Hollywood money shot" of the second tower being hit by a full throttle plane, no footage of the crumbling buildings, etc. it would be as much out of some people's minds as the Pennsylvania crash and the Pentagon attack.

If the WTC had not been struck at all that day (just the Pentagon and say the other plane was still downed before reaching it's target) the left would be absolutely passive in any retaliation. The military-industrial complex had been struck and "deserved" it. No juicy footage to convey the horror or offense that had been committed.

Point well taken and agreed.

I still maintain however, if Americans are tired of Hollywood using the media to further their political agenda, then play the game and hit them back where it hurts. In the box office returns. Otherwise people are just griping into the wind and doing nothing about it.

The point I was making to the original poster is Brosnan said nothing untrue, nor did I find anything anti-American in his statement. Quite frankly I find more of what comes out of our own politicians mouths these days more offensive than Brosnan's statement.

He lives in Malibu.

He's sweet, but stupid. He and his airhead wife got involved with a group of invironmentalists who were trying to kill an de-salination (that can't be right) plant on the Mexican coast. Supposedly, the plant would annoy whales. Because the group won, that area was denied, not only, fresh water, but several hundred jobs and a future. But Pierce and Keely got a nice plaque.

This guy is absolutely correct

He's right one some levels. The memory that these things can be done will remain, but life continues. Far worse things have happened and will happen.

We've got to keep "doing our thing" and drive the world's economy.

Yeah...we keep doing our thing alright...sending manufacturing jobs to Mexico and buying stuff made in China from WalMart, getting further into debt, and becoming severely less educated then a generation before. We're in the drivers seat BABY!

The American government is going to sieze unprecendented power FROM THE PEOPLE because of 9-11. In a way (Lord, I can't believe I'm typing this), one could be tempted to believe the accusations of Rep. Cynthia McKinney! Who and what stands to gain the most from terrorist activity?

Tinfoil hat on.

Never happen...the average American knows more about Britney Spears/Friends/Survivor/etc. then they do about American history. Pop culture, and what pop culture creates is more important. Being "cool" is more important then education, hard work, accomplishment, integrity, generousity, honesty and country. You can't expect a generation of kids and parents to give a $hit about anything else when they all have Me issues.

On a local scale, the flags in my neighborhood disappeared within weeks of 9/11....

Not in my neck of the woods. We still have flags flying on homes and businesses, ribbons and magnetic flags on vehicles, new patriotic billboards going up every week, and USA still being painted on commercial vehicles. About a month ago, the largest flag (endorsed by the military) was raised at our Civic Center. Shoot, I've even got a 6' tall stand up poster of the President in my office and every customer that comes in says something to the effect of 'Good Morning, Mr. President."

I'm not forgetting September 11. God bless America and President George W. Bush.

Yes audiences need to vote with their pocketbooks. Some people were unaware when they went to see The Sum Of All Fears that the villians had been changed so as not to offend muslims.

How are our lobbying efforts going in getting "acurate" portrayls in the middle eastern media?

After 9/11 I wasn't up much for watching a bunch of explosions. Before 9/11 I was mixed on the Hollywood action films (I tend more towards Hong Kong action films and drive-in cinema). I detested Die Hard 1 &2 but liked 3.

After 9/11 I did watch Dr. Strangelove again for the gallows humor.

Hollywood has been running propaganda in the "terrorist" films for some time. Arlington Road has domestic "right-wing" terrorists with known leftist Tim Robbins playing the right-wing baddie. The politics of the villian had no impact on the plot but seeing a smug lib grinning as he trashes the opposition is just too much to take.

I agree with you that this Brosnan is correct. It started fading from memory by the 15th of September when the media suddenly stopped showing those planes flying into the WTC. If they would make a point to show those videos a few times a day, people would get their ire up.

William Bennett when doing his book tour a few weeks ago was on C-SPAN with Oliver North and Bennett told a story that while in California (no surprise here) a person told him that they saw the WTC attack as an "East Coast thing". No boubt a straight ticket vote the Left can count on in November.

I agree with Brosnan and those demanding an apology from the guy should thank him for reminding the doped-up Hollyweird crowd that there was an attack in November.

Memory will fade. It always does.

Individual memory will, in a sense, fade. Shared patriotic memory will not.

There are not that many people left who actually remember Pearl Harbor, much less the Alamo or the Maine. But our collective national dedication to the meanings of these events will never be forgotten and thus are remembered.
