Kennedy collapses during news conference on prescription drug plan

(Newport-AP) -- Congressman Patrick Kennedy’s timing might not be great, but he sure knows how to pick his spots.

The four-term congressman collapsed yesterday during a news conference to discuss his prescription-drug plan.

But he was lucky that he was giving his address at Newport Hospital, surrounded by doctors and other hospital staff. Apparently, a stomach bug made him woozy and he collapsed near the tail end of his address.

His spokesman says Kennedy only briefly lost consciousness. He was revived by hospital staff—including Newport Hospital’s emergency room chief—and treated and released by the afternoon.

No public events on his calendar today, as he rests and recovers from the flu.
