Lawmakers assail lawsuit targeting their chaplains

Capitol Hill lawmakers yesterday defended their House and Senate chaplains against a lawsuit to have them fired, filed by the same California atheist who is challenging the word "God" in the Pledge of Allegiance.

"It's a ridiculous lawsuit," said Sen. Don Nickles, Oklahoma Republican and assistant minority leader.

Father Coughlin earns $148,000 a year and Mr. Ogilvie makes $130,000.

WTF???
They can pray and sing and sacrifice chickens for all I care - Just not on my dime. Can't they scare up a minister to do this for free? They could rotate with every congressman having a minister/priest/rabbi/shaman from his district giving the morning prayer - JUST NOT ON MONEY COERCED FROM ME.

"It's wrong for government to be saying that there's a God," Mr. Newdow said.

Mr. Newdow's statement is self-refuting. If there is no God there is no "right" and "wrong". There is only personal preference.
