Missile Trail over L.A.?

There is right now an incredible and massive, corkscrew vapor trail sitting over Malibu. Vandenburg AFB is out in that direction, so it could be a missile test, but I've seen them before, and this is beyond bizarre. Yellow, orange, red, violet, blue, and white. Highly luminous.
Anyone know what this is?

Traffic is stopping along Ventura Blvd as people gawk. Vapor trail is starting to fade a bit.

A couple of times these have appeared locally from atmospheric tests with rockets fired from Barking Sands, Hawaii. Other than that ???????

I think you got it right in the first place. I was a missile launch officer at Vandenberg and remember some spectacular trails. The jet stream usually passes at about 36,000 ft. and can cause corkscrew, multi-colored trails. Enjoy the view.

I don't know for sure, of course, but given the time of day, and your description of the cloud and its approximate location, I'm betting it's a missile out of Vandenberg.
Vandenberg AFB has extensive facilities for launching all kinds of things, and has done so for decades. This may be a NMD test, or perhaps a satellite launch. Hard to say.
The colors would probably result from the setting sun being behind the cloud.
