DeKALB -- "Skateboarding is not a crime," the saying goes.
Jumping through the window of a Subway restaurant on a skateboard, however, is criminal damage to property.
Just before 11 p.m. Wednesday, DeKalb police responded to a call at Subway, 162 W. Lincoln Highway, of a skateboarder who crashed through a plate-glass window measuring 3 feet by 7 feet.

Criminal destruction of property? Granted, skateboarders are idiots, but they think this guy was stupid enough to INTENTIONALLY go through a plate glass window? "Obviously that's very dangerous" -- do we have to ban glass now, for the children?

Security cameras were working, but Nelson had yet to look at them.
Hmmmm...and this was during closing hours so there wasn't much business and you still didn't look at the cameras ONCE, you say? Tsk Tsk. Nelson, Nelson, Nelson.

From the headline, I thought you meant one of these, and I was going to feel way guilty about making any "Hold muh beer" jokes.

Could have been a drug-induced smash and grab robbery attempt, since it was near closing time.
I skateboarded in my youth too, but we never harrassed businesses and their patrons like the (not so little 5',11'') arrested development pukes routinely do today.
It's fine for a pre-teen and younger teens to play around on skateboards in appropriate locations where they are not bothering anyone, but for near-adults to be using skateboarding as a prop to stage petty criminal acts is not acceptable - thus should be considered a crime.

In defense of the kid, I have walked thru 2 screen patio deck doors. Once at my house and once at my sister's. I honestly have to blame it on low light levels and my poor eyesight. (Witnesses at my sister's, however, blame it on me being too focused on the martini in my right hand......)</font size>

but did you spill any of the martini
( I hate it when they don't finish the story)
..lololololololol....

If you are walking through plateglass doors because you didn't notice them, may I suggest changing what you are smoking to tobacco instead. :)

That doesn't mean that he hadn't planned on stealing more. Of course he didn't plan on cutting himself either. I didn't say he was very bright. :)

Nelson knows that tape is a goldmine. The video shows will be bidding bigtime.

Criminal destruction of property? Granted, skateboarders are idiots, but they think this guy was stupid enough to INTENTIONALLY go through a plate glass window? In many states, the damage need not be intentional if the person made a willful effort to avoid having to pay for it.
If this person were to offer full restitution before he is apprehended, he would likely not be charged with destruction of property (though reckless endangerment may still apply if anyone else would have been at risk of injury). If he does not do so soon, however, his failure will likely be considered prima facie evidence of intent to avoid payment.

Shouldn't that be a "hold muh joint" alert? That must have been one killer case of the pot munchies.
