Boston Globe to Cover Gay Unions

BOSTON (AP) — The Boston Globe announced Sunday that it will begin publishing announcements of same-sex commitment ceremonies and civil unions, adding another name to a growing list of newspapers opening their wedding pages to gays.

The New York Times, The Charlotte Observer in North Carolina and the St. Louis Post-Dispatch all made similar announcements during the past two months.

The new policies bring the number of newspapers that publish and plan to publish same-sex union announcements to 139, according to the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation.

``This is community news and it fits into that rubric,'' said Globe editor Martin Baron. He noted that the newspaper already includes same-sex partners in obituaries.

The announcements are to begin running in the next few weeks on the Globe's Sunday ``Special Occasions'' page. They will appear along with weddings and engagements but under a separate heading. ``This recognizes a distinction as defined by the law and as defined by most religions as well,'' Baron said.

Same-sex partners will be eligible for the column if they celebrate their commitment in an officiated ceremony or register their civil union or domestic partnership, the newspaper said.

Globe officials met with representatives of GLAAD and the National Lesbian and Gay Journalists Association, but Baron said, ``we're not doing this in reaction to anything any of these organizations have done or said or proposed.''

He said the Globe also made the decision independently of The New York Times. The New York Times Co. owns both newspapers.

In a note to readers, the newspaper said ``commitment ceremonies and the legal rights of same-sex couples remain subjects of intense controversy within political and religious circles, and the Globe will continue to cover these debates impartially in its news pages.''

Conservative couples should refrain from submitting their wedding anouncements to the Boston Globe.
Let it fully become the the voice of perversion it claims not to be.

They are doing an end-run around society. First, they have made homosexuality so commonplace in the entertainment industry that nobody thinks much about it, and now they are going to get society used to seeing homosexual couples presented as legitimate so they can get homosexual marriage legitimized.

What will the Boston Globe (Al Qaeda East) NOT cover.

1 - When US troops are doing well.

2 - Positive matters regarding the President (they think it is Xlinton)

3 - Anything their Lawyers (BinghamDana) Dont want them to cover

4 - Anything that would hurt the Sport teams that they own

What exactly is a Gay Union? Could it be something like The International Brotherhood of Perverts, local # 69?

Gay union? That would be the International Brotherhood of Hairdressers and Colorists, presumably.

If their intention is to announce that they are a couple, they should be called Gay Coupling Ads.

"Boston Globe to Cover Gay Unions" Is this the government unions the democrats use for their own piggy bank or teddy kennedy's family marriage history.

"Boston Globe to Cover Gay Unions"

Just another pothole on the road that once-relevant newspapers are travelling as they vanish into insignificance.

Go Fox News!

What does any one need with a NEWSPAPER? I quit years ago.
90% of them here in NC are liberal and slanted beyond belief.

They serve as a good laxative.
It's somewhat awkward to use a laptop to surf the internet when you're seated on the john.
