Cops Hung Up Phone On Beltway Shooter(!)

An angry letter found tacked to a tree behind a restaurant where the sniper wounded a man this weekend complained of six failed attempts to reach police, and threatened more killings, of children in particular, if millions of dollars were not deposited in a bank account within two days, law enforcement sources said.

The letter listed half a dozen calls that had been "ignored" by operators answering phones at the command center in Rockville, Md., the Montgomery County police station and the FBI. It even named some of the people who had answered the phones.

Don't try to bring reason into this discussion now; it'll upset the condescending attitudes some on here are working with!

If my obligation is to protect the public and I can't, then my next obligation is to find someone who can.

Do you actually believe government law enforcement has the ability and/or responsibility to DIRECTLY PROTECT the public? Try suing them sometime for their failure to do so. No matter how egregious the failure, see what happens.

Cordially,

I know.

Let's challenge him.

Chief Moose, "We have this poor bastard shooting innocent people. I bet he doesn't have the guts to shoot at that person standing over there holding that CNN microphone.

Better challenge:
Chief Moose "This guy is a complete coward, he will go after innocent civilians, but he doesn't DARE start aiming at politicians like a Senator."

What is says to me is that the shooter is a foreigner. Good handwriting is no longer a priority in U.S. schools, but penmanship (sounds quaint, doesn't it) is still taught in Europe and former European colonies.

It is possible to simulate a foreigner's bad grammer. But for three neatly handwritten pages? That's a lot of work. I have OK comprehension in a couple foreign langauges, and can get by verbally, but without a dictionary and a grammar refernce, it would hours for me to compose a letter that long. Too many contradictions. It makes me think the bad grammar and spelling are genuine.

You are correct. We ain't gonna find an Al Quaida ID card on the shooter. The Bosnian bus slasher, the LAX shooter, and this guy could all be peripheral, wannabes, and/or the junior varsity of AQ.

It isn't AQ, it's all of radical Islam, including every Wahabbi mosque, we have to get rid of.

Aren't you surprised that this "crime" hasn't been solved already? I sure am. With all the intelligent potential officers right here on this thread, I'm surprised these armchair LEOs at FR haven't solved this crime, aren't you?

Actually Howlin, most of these threads you seem to have a problem with are not questioning the fact or complaining about the crimes not being solved, as much as how Moose is perceived by the public and the assurance he projects to the citizens in that area. Again, you seem to want to support someone that totally lacks perceived leadership and professionalism, and that appears to be over their head, out of their league, that struggles on a daily basis.

He is certainly not someone that I would personally want in a leadership role in my area.

I'd like to see Moose take the $10 million the sniper's demanding and put it up as a reward for his head. It's obvious the money's a ploy, and will do nothing to actually stop the shootings.

Three pages of neat handwriting, in bad English grammar? Slam dunk it is a foreigner, probably from a former European colony.

So Howlin, are you in favor of taking the ninja suits and MP5s away from the LEOs because they have proven to be useless? Just what do you think we improve LEA performance here?

Actually, all the reports and articles that I'm seeing say he's doing the best he can; even other law enforcement officers, present and past, agree he's in a tight spot and he's learning on the job. If authority figures in Maryland and the government don't have a problem with him, who are we to say he should be removed?

And, again, those are YOU opinions. I'm not willing to castigate somebody who's doing a job I wouldn't want for a million dollars, mainly because there's a chance he has to listen to all the carping about the REALLY important stuff, like how he talks, for goodness sake.

You can criticize him if you want, but until you walk in his very shoes, it's just your opinion. And I'm entitled to mine. I just don't see how the constant carping and mocking helps. If you get off on that, fine. I say let the man do the job that other people think he's handling just fine.

I suppose these are the standards you hope to be judged by at your performance reviews. The LEAs on the case have collectively killed more kids at Waco than the sniper has or probably ever could.

It's great the police hung up on the creep even if it was by accident. Giving him the royal treatment is nuts. He's a common killer. People are dying anyway so there's no reason not to stand up to him.

Here's my message to the killer: " Before I would give you a dime, I would shoot myself."

Did it ever occur to you that the sniper may be directing his communications to Moose? That happens from time to time. Perhaps the sniper has chosen Moose to deal with because of his percieved weakness. That may well be the reason he's out front.

Actually, all the reports and articles that I'm seeing say he's doing the best he can;

Ummmm, actually I haven't seen *all* those reports. Where are your reading this?

If authority figures in Maryland and the government don't have a problem with him, who are we to say he should be removed?

Actually in law enforcement circles on the west coast, they are privately cringing every time the man goes on national television. They are very embarrassed by this man. This is a fact. Even Ray Charles can see he is not in his league. He may be a good police officer, but he should stay the hell away from national news conferences.

You can criticize him if you want, but until you walk in his very shoes, it's just your opinion. And I'm entitled to mine. I just don't see how the constant carping and mocking helps. If you get off on that, fine. I say let the man do the job that other people think he's handling just fine.

If the murders continue, you may as well get used to the carping and mocking, as Moose will certainly be the focus of greater negativity by many. And it will be justified in my opinion.

He is certainly not someone that I would personally want in a leadership role in my area

The sniper has some type of accent (American or foreign). This is why the diversity hires hung up on him when he called.

PC Moose had a target for the sniper. Some angry white male Redneck Conservative Cracker who would sound like a Bubba LeRoy on the phone.

When the sniper didn't sound like this PC Profile, the diversity hires hung up on him.

America/the world still needs to see the Sniper's letter and
handwriting. Someone will recognize it. The cops can redact specific data from the copies to be able to weed out the thousands who will confess for a little fame and for the Grand Jury investigation and eventual trial.

It is criminal for the PCers to withhold this letter from Americans.

Law enforcement official should not allow criminals and murderers to dictate the terms. Not in public anyway. It's happened before, and almost always ends in disaster, leaving a whole lot of careers in flames.....
