More than four decades after he captured women's hearts on television's "Dr. Kildare," Richard Chamberlain decided to reveal his identity as a gay man "because I'm not afraid anymore."

"I'm not a romantic leading man anymore so I don't need to nurture that public image anymore," the 69-year-old Chamberlain said in an interview that aired Sunday on "Dateline NBC."

I knew there was something amiss with that Keanu when I saw him on the Tonight Show with the model, Giselle -- usually when those gorgeous women appear, the male guests swoon all over them -- not Keanu. She may as well have been a lamp for all the attention he gave her. Leno, on the other hand, flirted shamelessly!

Keanu Reeves and David Geffen were practically married for a while back in the 90's. Not sure if they are still together...

That is a totally false rumour that used to circulate, and the rumour has long since been dispelled. Geffen had an assistant that looked a lot like Keanu, which started the rumours. However, to this day Geffen says that HE HAS NEVER EVEN MET KEANU. Keanu has also denied the rumour and still laughs about it. A few years ago, Keanu's girlfriend was pregnant with his child. (It was stillborn.). No, I don't think he's gay.

Keanu's early role as a gay prostitute in "My Own Private Idaho" also helped flame the rumours a bit, I would imagine. It was probably the best acting he's ever done!

ALl I know is I checked out his bio on IMDB.com. I found out that "His name means "cool breeze over the mountains" in Hawaiian," but there was no mention of a goilfriend. And lots of gay celebrities have beards.

That particular girlfriend died tragically in a car wreck in 2001. But he was reported to be dating several women while he was filming The Matrix in Australia.

Perhaps he's bisexual? I don't know. But he is not totally gay. It is true, however, that in his movies there is never any real chemistry between him and his female leads. It's true also that he is almost 40 and has never been married. So who knows?

I clapped and cheered when his character died in Independence Day -- he was such a stupid addition (actually, subtraction) to that movie!

This is so true. He always seemed very professional, gentlemanly and mild mannered. I don't really care if he is gay or not. The subject bores me. If he wants to come out, fine. There is a difference between just saying, "I am a gay person", and making a huge, exhibitionistic deal out of it the way Ellen Degeneres did. I always thought she was extremely talented, another Lucille Ball. I knew she was gay but I did not care. I did not want to hear about it, because like 90% of the population I am not gay, I can't relate to it and I don't want relate to it. Trouble is she kept insisting that everybody relate to it.
