"Just a damn shame..." But all too often the sad reality.

Child support enforcement is one of the most mis-used and abused government programs. They often ignore the truly bad fathers and instead jump on the "easy pickin's" with both feet.

A government totally out-of-control.

Yeah, but so was he.

He got burnt all right.

Now he's crying about walking in to a furncae and getting burned.

Oh these poor victims.

Of course if he didn't do anything with the mother my comments are off base.

I'm assuming he did, but the gal got stcuk by a different thistle bush.

You know, I've read of cases where the Court acknowledges that the payer isn't the father, and yet he is forced to pay child support anyway.

The case I recall is that the father was divorced, discovered and proved non-paternity, and yet the Court ordered him to pay anyway.

The logic is that the child has always looked to that man as the father, and if he doesn't support it, who will?

Personally, I think the bio father should be on the hook, but I can see how it would be for the child to be abandoned by the only father he/she has known.

There are no easy questions or answers when marital fidelity breaks down, are there?

This happened to one of my friends about 10 yrs. ago. He met a girl in another town, one night stand, and it was over...or so he thought. It was 18 mos later, and we were sitting at our house (three of us shared a house at the time) on Christams Eve, and there's a cop at our door with a summons. He is convinced there must be some mistake because he doesn't even recognize the name of the girl on the family court summons. It turns out the girl had applied for welfare, and she had to name the father to get her benefits. She remembered his name, knew full well that he wasn't the father, but just threw his name out as the father. It took him THREE years, several nights in jail and a small fortune to get the garnishments and collection harassment stopped. And I swear to you, the child support coordinator (or whatever they are called) was complicit in the whole scheme. He demanded a paternity test, and the coordinator lady strung him along long enough that he was no longer eligible for it (she was outright deceitful in this too). It took a bulldog lawyer and $10K to get it stopped. He had everything documented fully, had proof of his request for a paternity test, all the conflicting instructions from the family court, and NO ONE even wanted to hear his story much less help him out. He finally came out okay, and ended up getting a decent settlement out of it from the state. After his case was won, and the money paid, the coordinator kept harrassing him amazingly enough, and he got her on tape over the phone accusing him of being a deadbeat and threatening to 'ruin his life'. She would even drive by our house and honk the horn and point at him as she drove by (this was caught on tape as well). It was surreal. This woman was the major part of the problem. She paid for it with her job and her house, which he won from her in a SECOND subsequent lawsuit against her personally (and you should have seen the fit she pitched when the deputies showed up to toss her a$$ out of her house too!!). In reality, she should have been arrested, but the DA refused to prosecute (big surprise). The whole thing was preposterous. The coordinator had been accused multiple times of this kind of misconduct (and many had ample evidence of wrongdoing on her part), but she remained on the job to continue her campaign of intimidation. My friend, being the stubborn jackass that he is saw it all the way through. No one up until that point had ever wanted to take the time and money to fight her. After seeing the ordeal he went through, I can't say I blame them. The system is broken badly when someone like this lady was allowed to use her position as her personal soapbox to persecute men, ANY men, whose name crossed her desk in a child support case.

I worked with a lady who was having trouble getting the DA to help her collect child support payments. She found out that they had dropped her case without telling her. When she demanded an explanation she was told they couldn't help her, and her legitamate son, because they were persuing her ex-husband for another child support case.

It seems that the DA felt it was more important to get money for the bimbo, who had broken up her marriage and had a child out of wedlock, than it was to help her the victim.
