I got to spend 4 hours with Tyrone Calico, the rookie who scored the only Titan's touchdown Sunday, when we were sitting next to each other on a flight from SF to Memphis this spring. Really nice kid. He's caught two passes for two touchdowns. Not a bad beginning to a pro career.

The Titans are a team that has to decide who they are, where they're coming from. Tyrone Calico may need to emerge as a real leader a lot sooner than anyone thought, though I don't necessarily think that's going to happen. I hope he has the chance to learn the game and come into his own without undo preassure. He doesn't have the basics of football (he played basketball, not football, in High School here in the Memphis area). He does have amazing raw talent and, I believe, real leadership potential. I'll be interested to watch.

I was in Memphis for a day on business last week. I am still stunned at the damage done to the city by this spring's storm.
I was driving west on Poplar Avenue and turned north to get on the freeway when I saw a home with a huge pecan tree that had almost cut the place in half. Almost every front yard had downed trees and limbs. The city sure took a whipping.

Time to admit that Eddie George is D-U-N done. He doesn't have the speed or explosiveness any more. He could get 30-40 carries a game and he wouldn't get more than 80 or 90 yards total. This team needs to be built around Steve McNair and his receivers (Calico, Bennett, Wycheck).

I believe my team, the Carolina Panthers, are pretty good.
What was the name of that team we beat on Sunday, the Tampa Bay Books?

I watched the Patriots/Eagles game yesterday. Even though I am a fan of the Pats, I felt really sorry for the Eagles and especially for McNabb. Their own fans were booing them unmercifully. They basically handed the game away with all those turnovers. I hope New England doesn't get overconfident from that victory. They didn't really have to do anything.

I wonder if McNabb will get the start next week.

IMHO, the Bucs played just awful on Sunday. BUT, that being said, if not for blocked FG's and point after touchdown they would have been up by 7 over Carolina.

It was a hard game to evaluate, I don't think either team really played up to their potential with so many penalties being called on both sides.

Both defences looked good, but bottom line, no touchdowns for the Panthers even when they were near the goal line, and blocked field goals for the Bucs-I was disappointed in both teams.

Having lived in Charlotte and Tampa Bay, I want to see each team do well.

How can you tell when the Titans are going to run the ball? Eddie George has tears in his eyes when he comes out of the huddle

Yeah. Imagine how much fun it is to be Andy Reid and have a 110 million-dollar stiff for a quarterback.

I was in Memphis for a day on business last week. I am still stunned at the damage done to the city by this spring's storm.

I will state now that the July storm was the most under reported story in the US this year. I'll bet that there is less damage per capita from hurricane Isababel than from our "little" category 3 storm. But we're fly over country. We don't count. It doesn't matter that there was a higher percentage of people in the given geographic area without power for a longer period than the "great" blackout of '03 in the norhteast. Doesn't matter that our problems were caused by actual damage instead of tripped breakers. We don't count. Can you tell this is a sore spot?

Oh, and don't go near mid-town. You'll break down crying at the damage. I don't know if Memphis can claim to be the city of trees anymore. It will take months to get enough contractors in to clear up the individual home's damage.

while in town did you at least get to go to Corky's? I love their pulled pork best, though I will allow that rib fans may like Rendesvouz ribs better (I don't like ribs so much). However, there's no question that the onion loaf at Corky's is to die for!!!!
