Just because everyone, most, think it's a good idea, doesn't make it LEGAL. If they had a do not put a commercial on TV list, I guarantee you, you'd have at least 50 million folks on that thing too.

Lots of otherwise smart people at FR haven't bothered looking a bit further as to WHY this is illegal and why it would have serious ramifications on our economy.

As a Financial Advisor in a solid position, my competition would be wiped out by this legislation. I personally benefit from this law.... BUT it is BAD law, and a BAD idea.

A company, without this law, has to comply with a slew of many existing laws. Chances are, the companies that are really bugging you, are already in violation of Federal and State laws. This was just another law, on top of the last law. Something our govt is very good at.

Previously, companies had to have their own "do not call list" but it was hard to regulate when the company says "you never told us to put you on that list". A do not call registry clears that one up.

Just off the top of my head, what if you don’t want blacks to “come into MY PHONE” or into my business? After all, you own your business too. What if congress votes to support that? Is it constitutional?

More realistically, what if some day, congress votes to limit what some PC committee calls hate speech (i.e. conservatism) from playing on the TV that you also paid for?

I haven’t thought this through, but on its face, this law was just too easy. I suspect that a constitutional amendment would be required to bypass first amendment protections for cold callers.

Terrible logic! It's two different things. I can't "turn off" my phone for fear some of my family may need my help!
If I choose to turn on the TV, I agree to be bombarded by advertising. If I DON'T answer my phone, someone who really needs to talk to me, may pay a dear price. It's obvious who you favor on this issue! Let Congress MAKE it legal and while they're at it, they can tell the Judicial Branch to stay out of the Legislative Branch's beeswax!

Maybe Congress should retaliate by threatening to strip Federal judges to find someone in contempt of court for interrupting during courtroom proceedings. Would be a bad law, but maybe get their attention with the clear parallel of denying someone control over their domain.

No, the only correct solution is impeachment. They should start with the Supreme Court justices who reread the Constitution until they could find pornography and sodomy in its pages.
