Fury as Maryland parents are told they CAN'T opt their young kids out of LGBTQ classes

Parents cannot force a school district to let them pull their children out of classes with LGBTQ themes, an appeals court has ruled.

Three sets of parents and a parental rights group sued the Montgomery County Public Schools board in Maryland after it announced the classes in 2022.

They claimed not being allowed to opt out their kindergarten to grade 5 children violated their First Amendment rights to freedom of religion.

But the 4th US Circuit Court of Appeals denied their request for a preliminary injunction 2-1 as the parents failed to show how the policy would infringe their rights

The parents - one Muslim, one Christian, and one Chinese - objected to their children being exposed to themes they said conflicted with their religions.

The English language arts curriculum reading list included books like Uncle Bobby's Wedding, The Pride Puppy, and Born Ready: The True Story of a Boy Named Penelope.

Litigants insisted it was up to them to teach their kids 'what it means to be male and female; the institution of marriage; human sexuality; and related themes'.

What their children learn should be decided by them, not the schools, they argued, also claiming the subject matter was too mature for young children.

Two of the three judges disagreed, ruling the mere exposure of children to ideas against their faith was not by itself contrary to the First Amendment.

Children learning about issues they disagree with is 'part of the compromise parents make when choosing to send their children to public schools', they wrote.

I kinda know what caused it in my state. It’s just a matter of what it do it to Maryland to make them angry enough to boot the Demorats.

They just had their primary; the number of Republicans voting was about one third of the number of democrats voting. If I were those parents, I’d either get their kids out of public schools or move to a red state; Maryland isn’t going to turn red any time soon.

I wonder if people in Hamtramk also ignore it like they do in parts of Turkey. It happens.

“Opting out” is not the solution.

Abolishing government schools is the solution.

“even start a GOFUNDME if needed”

Absolutely NOT! GoFundMe is far-left, and has kept money that has been donated to conservative causes.

GiveSendGo is the conservative alternative.

I don’t think Turkey has a separation of church and state.

Parents cannot force a school district to let them pull their children out of classes...

What the hell kind of tortured English is this? "Force the school district to let them"? The school district is the one doing the forcing, not the parents.

The solution is simple. Pull your kids out of the public schools. You would have to be crazy to put your kids in a place where they're telling you at the front door that they're groomers.

With respect, government education is a corrupt idea.

“Children learning about issues they disagree with is ‘part of the compromise parents make when choosing to send their children to public schools’, they wrote.”

But this is much more than just learning about issues. It is demanding the children form a certain view or risk failing the class. We know this because material is never presented in a neutral manner. If it was there would be no requirement for class discussion, reports, exams, and other means of determining how well the students retained the material.

This is not “read aloud” time where a student could very well just tune out the material and not suffer a lower grade for not grasping the relationship between Fern and Wilbur.
That the judges dismiss this as parents not wanting their children exposed to ideas contrary to their faith shows an alarming ignorance. Every time those children step outside their home they are exposed to a wide variety of ideas not embraced by their religion or culture. What they are not exposed to is people in authority over them insisting they reject those teaching and affirm those that tell them their beliefs are wrong, bigoted, outmoded, even evil.

I am really starting to believe the solution is to end government controlled compulsory schooling. Even home schooling must be subject to certain government regulations. Until the only role of government is local and limited to making sure school taxes are paid out as the public decides there really will be no such thing as withdrawing from the influence of NEA/ DOE.

“Some people on FR wet their pants when one suggests that muslims are not as big a threat as the political Left, but it’s true.”

Absolutely true ... and when TSHTF hopefully it is those who want to cut the koranimals some slack that are the first to run into a fanatical jihadist.

The only difference between a fanatical muslim and a fanatical leftist is that the muslim will kill you immediately while the leftist give you a warning first - maybe.

Consider this: you may have a muslim neighbor who seems like a nice guy. His kid plays soccer on the same team as yours. His wife goes to the same bridge parties as his wife. Seems harmless. But if his imam says ‘go forth and kill your infidel neighbors’ you had better be ready to duck or shoot first because only one of you is walking away.

“. But if his imam says ‘go forth and kill your infidel neighbors’...”

Look in the middle east. who most likely are these “infidels”?

I won’t wait for the answer.

They can’t throw gays off the rooftops in Gaza anymore because Israel destroyed all their large buildings. Shame on you Israel, shame on you!
Say want you want about Gaza but there was no way in hell those people would ever let the alphabet kids march down their streets shouting “we’re here, we’re queer and were coming for your children” like they did in America.

The left has to be going nuts that there are actually “Gays and drag queens for Palestine”.

I sit back and watch this all unfold in awe. Just shows how the left and schools have dumbed down the kids.

I don’t agree with Islam but I will find common ground with some of their members. They don’t want to send their kids to school and have this crap pushed upon them. We both can agree on this.

If Christians had been doing their job this would not have happened. However with a lot of the stuff you have seen me post it is clear that mainline protestant churches are embracing the queer crap and we are losing more and more churches as time goes by.

Time to revisit the case of Pierce v. Society of Sisters where it was plainly stated that “children are not the mere property of the state.”

Even home schooling must be subject to certain government regulations.

.....

A number of states have practically no regs for homeschoolers.

The nlob must be starved. Until parents walk in large numbers..60 to 70 percent nothing will change
