Ad-Hoc Religion Forum Committee Discussion - Thread 3
3/27/02 | angelo

Posted on 03/27/2002 10:38:26 AM PST by malakhi

I've reviewed the critiques and suggestions from Thread 2, have incorporated those I could, and have come up with the following Topic list. One point that was questioned by a number of people were the names of the Denominational Topics categories. I have tried to stay with names that are in common use, and/or are preferred by members of those groups. If you suggested a change here and I did not put it in place, that is probably why.

What I would like to do is to have all interested parties vote a straight up or down on the topics as they stand. If over half of the voters oppose the present list, then we'll reopen it for further changes. If the majority is in favor of the present list, then this is what we'll go with. Keep in mind that additions to the list are always possible down the road.

I will be offline from sunset tonight until Saturday night for the first two days of Passover and then for Shabbat. That will give everyone a chance to weigh in and vote. I'll tally the votes Saturday night, and let Jim Robinson know the results.

Thanks for your participation and the many great suggestions!

I have read about you in the Bible. Jesus was speaking of you when he was talking about this Pharisee:

Luke 18:9 ff
The Parable of the Pharisee and the Tax Collector
9 To some who were confident of their own righteousness and looked down on everybody else, Jesus told this parable: 10 "Two men went up to the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector. 11The Pharisee stood up and prayed about himself: 'God, I thank you that I am not like other men--robbers, evildoers, adulterers--or even like this tax collector. 12I fast twice a week and give a tenth of all I get.'

13"But the tax collector stood at a distance. He would not even look up to heaven, but beat his breast and said, 'God, have mercy on me, a sinner.'

14"I tell you that this man, rather than the other, went home justified before God. For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted."

To adore him!

Terry holds up her hands in celebration for a Correct answer!:>))

You are right codie, I am waiting for the clergy to figure out an answer to that question before I make my point on that

As a little Catholic girl I learned "God made me to know Him,Love Him and serve Him in this world and the next" (Baltimore Cat.)

So you as the only one with the courage to answer that and to have a correct answer win the prize *grin*

That is a childish non scripitual response..

Thank you for calling my post childish and non-Scriptural thereby showing you really aren't up to the kind of discussion you would like to have with me. Good will and respect are essential, but I imagine you really can't see the harm you do, and sadly you have folks like Dan egging you on to higher and higher feats of assault on fellow Christians.

God made us for HIs purposes and the mind of man cannot fully comprehend His ways or His thoughts, but he shows us that we were created for blessing not cursing, that we were fashioned to adore him and enter into true worship of him, and that we were to enjoy him forever not as slaves but as friends through his Son Jesus Christ.

I answered you just fine. You just want a fight for the sake of fighting.

Come back to the Catholic Church, Terry. Your rebellion against Christ and his Church is leading you into a land that is waste. Come back to the Feast of Jesus Christ spread for you with all its fulness and joy in the Catholic Church. Come back to the truth and joy of Jesus. Though the time is late, it is not yet too late for you. Come home.

Hi Angelo, Its me sara---I stopped in to see what was going on in the new religious forum. I had voted and left it in your hands because you are quite bright,I have noted. I figured you would take the vote tweak things around a little, get started and then make adjustments based on the experiences you were encountering. Imagine my surprise to see Thread three with over 500 responses and as far as I could tell none of the last 200 have anything to do with the subject at hand. What's going on?

Oh,I bet I know. The very same thing that has caused some very valuable exchanges specific to certain issues to be removed. I was so furious that I thought thoughts that were so nasty I doubted my own commitment to the Trinitarian God. Did a group of busy bodies insinuate themselves in discussions and slyly change the topic to one of their liking?

I've been meandering around the cyber world trying to find people of like mind, who see the current crisis in the Church as an oppurtunity to cleanse it so that it will conform itself with the plan of the Father to bring all of His creation back home. For that purpose He sent His Son who established a visible Church to assure the gates of Heaven would be opened to all who sought Him.

And,who also see the timing of the crisis as a work of Divine Providence coinciding perfectly with another grand attempt of men to overthrow God and set up a kingdom where "important elite men"could take the reins and reign over all of us poor dummies. It has long been a tenet of profound thinkers that people who give their allegience to God could not be enslaved.Consequently plans to enslave men were often thwarted by those who were "true believers". Well, the new "elite" came up against the same brick wall that met their predessesors in past attempts. Recognizing that the Church could not be destroyed from without especially after WWI they been infiltrating the largest and most dangerous foe,the Roman Catholic Church. Their earlier groundwork has come to fruition and all of the corruption and perversion has come to light. This is good.

Now we who believe God put each of us here for a purpose need to work on,how what at first sight, appears to be a death blow can be turned into a new life for Christianity and Western Civilization.I really think that those who so cavalierly break into a thread and bestow their opinions which are off point need to set up their own thread. They could call it "Aren't Catholics Sinners",or whatever they want just don't disrupt serious discussions by people who have a different world view than they do and are trying to prevent a take over by folks who don't like us and will swat them off like flies once they destroy us. If they thought we were interested and searching for salvation that would be different but that is not their objective. Instead they just make many of us aghast at their rudeness and lack of common courtesy.

The foregoing is only my opinion based on observing the world God made. I certainly hope the people who will monitor the thread will prohibit disrupting, without it being necessary to kill the thread. It is hard to wade through their babble to get to the substance. Thanks Angelo,I don't envy you. Ugh,I've tried to deal with 5 points under one subject<I hope you can untangle some of this.Bottom line.FIGURE OUT HOW TO GET RID OF DISRUPTORS WITHOUT KILLING THREADS BUT GET RID OF THESE RUDE,OBNOXIOUS DISRUPTORS.

Was this a thoughtful response?

You think God is as selfish as some human beings are. Sorry. God likes to share his stuff with his kids.

This is not an assault. That is loaded language.. I have asked questions. Not much else.. I asked you Why God made man..What is the chief end of man?

Do you know why God made you?
Yes indeed.

Do you know what your chief end is?
Oh yes.

Why are you reluctant to give the answer?
I'm not reluctant to give answers to these questions when they are asked by someone of good will.

Come back to the Church. We all are waiting for you with open arms.

saradippity makes a good point that the conversation on this thread has strayed far from its original purpose. Since it looks as if your discussion here could continue for a while, perhaps one of you would like to take the initiative to start a separate discussion thread, so we can let this one die?

It is called the Chaplet of Divine Mercy. It is beautiful and you do it on a rosary while meditating on Christ's passion. There is a beautiful story behind it, we should talk about it some time. The novena was to start on Good Friday and end on this Saturday. Sunday is Divine Mercy Sunday. I'm sure you could catch up :-}

This is the address of the novena on EWTN: http://www.ewtn.com/Devotionals/mercy/novena.htm

Is that going to be a rule? It was never a rule before..often threads evolve..may I point you in the direction of your own favorite ..the neverending thread..that thread was about Baptists stopping talks with Catholics..that has not been the topic in a year..

Is there two sets of rules at work here? One for you guys and one for the rest of us?

To: history_matters; BibChr,
Why are you reluctant to give the answer? I'm not reluctant to give answers to these questions when they are asked by someone of good will.

So only those that have agreement with you can hear the answers that agree with you?? That is silly nonsense. You know the answer to those questions directly impact your belief on what Mary and the Saints do in heaven and what their role is..so you "choose " not to answer
