Ad-Hoc Religion Forum Committee Discussion - Thread 3
3/27/02 | angelo

Posted on 03/27/2002 10:38:26 AM PST by malakhi

I've reviewed the critiques and suggestions from Thread 2, have incorporated those I could, and have come up with the following Topic list. One point that was questioned by a number of people were the names of the Denominational Topics categories. I have tried to stay with names that are in common use, and/or are preferred by members of those groups. If you suggested a change here and I did not put it in place, that is probably why.

What I would like to do is to have all interested parties vote a straight up or down on the topics as they stand. If over half of the voters oppose the present list, then we'll reopen it for further changes. If the majority is in favor of the present list, then this is what we'll go with. Keep in mind that additions to the list are always possible down the road.

I will be offline from sunset tonight until Saturday night for the first two days of Passover and then for Shabbat. That will give everyone a chance to weigh in and vote. I'll tally the votes Saturday night, and let Jim Robinson know the results.

Thanks for your participation and the many great suggestions!

I don't think we can say anything we want, but did you start by Freepmailing Terry in private?

No, I regret that I did not. It was in a public forum and was so horrendous to me that I did not find it possible to step back and consider that possibility. I only knew I needed to speak out against an evil. I was mistaken regarding her intent according to her apology. That is a tragedy that should teach us something, but I do not know if it will.

Actually it wasn't you that I was speaking about, but it was the very behavior that you are now decrying against, that this individual manifested so vehemently. I join with you and anyone else of sound mind in protesting it. Yet I don't believe that banning resolves anything. It only inflames others and causes more of the same, time after time. Iowegian has suggested the biblical solution, which is to me, mature wisdom. We are not dragons as much as you like to characterize us, and you are not devils. Most of us who are bible believers lead a very austere Puritan lifestyle, and we are understandably disconcerted to be called immoral and the reason for all of society's ills. If I can come over here and tell elijah how much I respect and admire him, you all can calm down and let us work towards peace.

What the heck do you call this?

I got a freep-mail today from proud2brc today that proves he is proud and gleeful that he baited NC posters into saying negative things about him and then hit abuse.

I'd call that revealing the contents of private Freepmail. I'd call that willfully misrepresenting the contents of an email.

I would not have to have posted the entire conversation if you had not willfully misrepresented my words.

But enough of this.

739 was supposed to be a private reply too. Sorry, I can't even hit the right button tonight.

I think this is a good example of a time when one might use the abuse button on oneself to remove a message meant for private reply.

I can see you are working very hard to engage each other in a better way than we have before. I applaud you for that. We all have a lot to learn before we can come and reason together. But in time perhaps our goodwill shall make that a possibility.

That guy is truly out of control.

Yes, you are right. I've let this foolishness get under my skin, and should know better.

Good night. My apologies for being truly out of control.

I'm not being rude. You're just insignificant.

This kind of language is becoming to commonplace. Someone told Oxford that he or his opinion was of no significance. And now you do the same with Brian. I encourage all of us to refrain from calling each other insignificant when it is a total affront to the Gospel of Jesus Christ who teaches us how tremendously significant we are in God's sight. John 3:16.

To: father_elijah; ALL
Sorry about my behavior on this thread, Father. I do "get out of control" when someone unjustly impugns our reputations of misrepresents our words, or attacks our church unjustly or in ignorance and bigotry. I have yet to figure out how to channel the unjust anger at slander against me as well as the just anger at slander against our Church. And for that I am guilty and apologize to all. It serves neither the True Gospel we are trying to serve, nor those desperately in need of that Gospel.

elijah, This is biblical wisdom.

I believe Iowegian has helped us all by reminding us of the Scriptural teaching on conflict resolution. Unfortunately, for me, in public settings my passions about certain things can overrule the wisdom of the Word of God. Pray for me in this -- that wisdom may increase in my dealings with others.

goodnight elijah.

And they that be wise shall shine as the brightness of the firmament; and they that turn many to righteousness as the stars for ever and ever. Daniel 12:3.

He's not my boy though I am very proud of him for his apology.

Trust this, BigMack, I will confront your words when you diminish the dignity of people -- even people with whom you are furious. We must not ruin the opportunity for discussion and community by such.

because he can't stand the heat

I have carried on long, exhausting debate here without ever once hitting the abuse button, or whining as you folks are now, and in which I was publically and privately commended repeatedly by RC and NRC alike for my patience and reserve.

But there is a vast difference between taking the heat of a sane theological debate, and putting up with the senseless insults, bigotry, and slurs that you insist on defending as legitimate debate. These have no place in legitimate civil debate here. And these senseless insults, bigotry, and slurs are the reason the "abuse button" is necessary, and why some have been, justly, banned.

The difference, apparently, is wholly lost on you, in your obvious bias.

Whatever kind of look you were going for, you missed it.

Any connection between your reality and mine is purely coincidental.

Trust this, if Bible-believing Christians do not wake up and fight with their spiritual weapons against this growing ecumenical monster, we who today live in countries which allow freedom of religious worship could within one generation find ourselves, or at least our children, in bondage to a world church headed by the Roman pope.

You know what you can do with your ecumenicalism.
