The Neverending Story
An ongoing debate on Scripture, Tradition, History and Interpretation.

Statesmen may plan and speculate for liberty, but it is religion and morality alone which can establish the principles upon which freedom can securely stand. The only foundation of a free constitution is pure virtue. - John Adams

Golly Reggie, you fibbed.

You promised to respond by quoting that portion of scripture wherein Mary was referred to as the mother of other children.

When you can be honest about your faith, give me a ping. Until then,

Goodnight.

Hmmmmmm, it seems you are accusing me of being dishonest.

How did you meet your end of the bargain>

You could bolster your case by quoting any of the Apostles on the Perpetual Virginity of Mary.

I'm still waiting for an honest reply from you.

Goodnight. I have to run. Of course I know you can't fulfill your end of the bargain.

No Mac, although why we are speaking now when you and your wife both lack the courtesy to respond to my previous posts is beyond me.

I would not object to any honest disagreement handled with grace.

IMO Reggie lacks both of those qualities. He is, you will forgive me, a bit of an ass, and singlehandedly (I know you try) turns what should be, could be, and often is an amazing testimony to faith and the glory of God into a cesspool.

Makes me sad, thats all

Frustrates the heck out of ya when he exposes you guys. He's very good at it.

His behavior isn't so much frustrating as it is sad, because he provides such a poor testimony to the depth of Christian faith.

Instances

Get real. Seriously?

OK. Fine. First read this: Jerks R Us

Then Pray on it a bit (if you do that sort of thing)

Then read any 5 out of 10 of your previous posts to Dave over the last several days (or years as far as I know, I would imagine you're nothing if not consistant)

Then Pray on it a bit (if you do that sort of thing)

Then get back to me if you are honestly still confused as to what I might possibly be referring to.
Hint: its very obvious.

The Word of God is Jesus Christ, not the books that foretold his coming nor the books that tell of his life. I do not condemn your contemplation of the Scriptures, because we also do this. But we also contemplate the Real Presence and think that is doing so we come even closer . But even here we can see God only in a veiled manner, and we know him only through faith.

Obviously, Reggie and Dave have at each other a bit.

Nothing more, ... nothing less.

To believe in him, to believe what he promised us, to believe what he told us to do, to walk his walk, to wear his yoke. For so He told us

Also: to stand on the Rock his Church is built on and to submit to the authority of that Church. for so Paul told us.

Both to love, and to serve, the Lord

Well, there is more.

I recognize that my sniping at Reggie is not a good witness, that his feigned misunderstanding of every single thing I ever say, his endless picking of nits, and his constant accusations of my "lying" are designed to upset me. And sometimes I fall for his trickery.

This I know is wrong.

Reggie seems to think that hounding me is "God's Work."

I come here to honestly try to explain my faith, and Reggie comes here to pick apart anything I say.

Like others here, he needs to ask himself exactly how much he is willing to support, to uphold the principle that he must oppose anything I say.

Yo angelo. I was reading some jewish tradition on Hell.

They are called Sheol, Abaddon, Beer Shahat, Tit ha-Yawen, Sha'are Mawet, Sha'are Zalmawet: and Gehenna. It requires three hundred years to traverse the height, or the width, or the depth of each division, and it would take six thousand three hundred years to go over a tract of land equal in extent to the seven divisions.

I apologize for the name calling and such over the last few days. It has gotten out of hand.

I will strive to not allow myself to repeat the behavior, by whatever means are necessary.

Wow. I do not want to go there.

Each of the seven divisions in turn has seven subdivisions, and in each compartment there are seven rivers of fire and seven of hail. The width of each is one thousand ells, its depth one thousand, and its length three hundred, and they flow one from the other, and are supervised by ninety thousand Angels of Destruction. There are, besides, in every compartment seven thousand caves, in every cave there are seven thousand crevices, and in every crevice seven thousand scorpions. Every scorpion has three hundred rings, and in every ring seven thousand pouches of venom, from which flow seven rivers of deadly poison. If a man handles it, he immediately bursts, every limb is torn from his body, his bowels are cleft asunder, and he falls upon his face. There are also five different kinds of fire in hell. One devours and absorbs, another devours and does not absorb, while the third absorbs and does not devour, and there is still another fire, which neither devours nor absorbs, and furthermore a fire which devours fire. There are coals big as mountains, and coals big as hills, and coals as large as the Dead Sea, and coals like huge stones, and there are rivers of pitch and sulphur flowing and seething like live coals.

If your limbs are torn off and your bowels ripped apart, how are you supposed to enjoy the rest of your time spent there?

Good question. And one that I don't have the answer to. :-)
