It is a crying shame that Alzheimer's has robbed him of his faculties.

How might the world be different if he was still able to speak publicly about current events?

I'm proud to be one of John Adams' descendants. Both Adams and Reagan - great presidents. A bit misunderstood in their prime, but both great men. God Bless America.

God bless the Gipper!

Without him, I could do what I do today! He gave me hope when the others guy wanted me on welfare!

"I heard those speakers at that other convention saying "we won the Cold War"-- and I couldn't help wondering, just who exactly do they mean by "we"? And to top it off, they even tried to portray themselves as sharing the same fundamental values of our party! What they truly don't understand is the principle so eloquently stated by Abraham Lincoln: "You cannot strengthen the weak by weakening the strong. You cannot help the wage-earner by pulling down the wage-payer. You cannot help the poor by destroying the rich. You cannot help men permanently by doing for them what they could and should do for themselves."

If we ever hear the Democrats quoting that passage by Lincoln and acting like they mean it, then, my friends, we will know that the opposition has really changed.

Until then, we see all that rhetorical smoke, billowing out from the Democrats, well ladies and gentlemen, I'd follow the example of their nominee. Don't inhale.

Too bad they didn't listen Mr. President. Look what we have to clean up now!

God Bless Ronald Reagan.

Thank God he gave us George Sr. as a VP, which led to George Sr. POTUS, which led to GWB, POTUS.

Republican National Convention, August 17, 1992

"For me, tonight is the latest chapter in a story that began a quarter of a century ago, when the people of California entrusted me with the stewardship of their dreams.

My fellow citizens - those of you here in this hall and those of you at home - I want you to know that I have always had the highest respect for you, for your common sense and intelligence and for your decency. I have always believed in you and in what you could accomplish for yourselves and for others.

And whatever else history may say about me when I'm gone, I hope it will record that I appealed to your best hopes, not your worst fears, to your confidence rather than your doubts. My dream is that you will travel the road ahead with liberty's lamp guiding your steps and opportunity's arm steadying your way.

My fondest hope for each one of you - and especially the young people here, is that you will love your country, not for her power or wealth, but for her selflessness and her idealism. May each of you have the heart to conceive, the understanding to direct, and the hand to execute works that will make the world a little better for your having been here.

May all of you as Americans never forget your heroic origins, never fail to seek divine guidance, and never lose your natural, God-given optimism.

And finally, my fellow Americans, may every dawn be a great new beginning for American and every evening bring us closer to that shining city upon a hill."

--Ronald Reagan, in his last address to a Republican National Convention

I just realized in looking at your post #7 photo of President Reagan in the Oval Office that President George W. Bush has restored the Reagan colors of gold drapes and cream carpet. Very appropriate!

Hey, my family is (supposedly, I'm not clear on all the details) descended from Adams too. I've always been very proud of it, as I consider John and Abigail among the most influential people in our nation's history.

If you are descended from John and Abigail Adams, it should be pretty easy to verify. Find Burke's Presidential Families of the United States of America (2nd ed., 1981). Hugh Brogan and Charles Mosley, American Presidential Families (1993) may also be helpful (I'm not sure if they trace all the descendants).

One night I had a dream. Ronald Reagan was riding horseback alone one evening at his California ranch in the days between being the Governor and President. As many of us who ride will acknowledge, we feel at times close to the Almighy when we are on a horse. In my dream, I heard Mr. Reagan addresss his prayers out loud to the still evening air; "Lord, if I could do one thing in my life, I'd like to end the evil of Soviet Communism". A voice from the stillness replied in answer to the great mans longing. "Ron," the voice began softly, with no startle to the horse, "If I gave you the wisdom and power to defeat the Soviet Union I would have given you as much power as I gave Moses. That is a blessing and a punishment I've not bestowed on any mortal since him. Do you really want to bear a burden that great?" "Oh yes, if possible!" Mr. Reagan answered quickly. "To defeat the evil system that collects the human mind, heart and soul, which you made in your image, into a herd of mindless, heartless, souless slaves for evil is a victory worth any price one man could pay". Any price, Ron? asked the voice. Yes, oh Yes,! replied the future predident. " As long as it's mine to pay alone. The voice answered from the evening air; "Ron, your heart is sincere and your courage is obvious. This I will help you do, but I must remind you that the price to you alone will be very dear". "Oh, I am willing, price unknown", quickly spoke the man on horseback. The voice in the evening then became more serious, but without loosing any of its kindness and declared the terms. "The world cannot have one man with that much power for very long or he becomes the evil he seeks to destroy. If I remove this power after the evil is vanquished, the mans enemies will tear him and his family apart. Therfore, I must ask, in return that you must forget everything. You must not remember for the sake of the world and especially to protect you from those who would wish you harm. Your memory is the price your Creator requires, Roald Reagan, for defeating the Soviet System". Without hesitation Reagan answered, "Can we shake on it?" "Done" said the voice. I startled awake from my dream by the excitement on the television that I had fallen asleep to while watching events in Europe in 1989. As I watched the Berlin Wall fall, my eyes filled with the tears of one who is witnessing a miracle. HAPPY BIRTHDAY MR. PRESIDENT, AND GOD BLESS YOU RONALD REAGAN.............
