Registration is required for those who wish to post articles or replies. You do not need to register for read only access.

Steps in the registration process are as follows:

  1. Registration and User Agreement You will be prompted for email address and desired screen name. It is important that you enter your real email address on this screen, because it is used to send you an email message containing your temporary password and further instructions for activating your account. By registering, you will be agreeing to the terms of our User Agreement. After reading the remaining instructions, click below on "registration" to read the agreement and begin the registration process.

  2. Account Activation
    After submitting your registration information, you will receive an email message containing your temporary password and a URL for logging in. The login screen will prompt for your screen name and password. Sucessfully logging in will activate your account. It is important that you activate your account within a few days of registering, otherwise your registration record will expire and will be purged from our database. In this case, you will need to register again.

  3. Login
    You must be a registered user before logging in for posting. The login program will prompt you for your screen name and password.

    Important: "Cookies" must be enabled in your browser before logging in and or posting. Your login status is passed via cookie by the login program to the posting program. If your account is registered and activated, but your attempts to login are unsuccessful, please consult your browser's help screens for information on enabling cookies.

    If you receive a message that your system did not accept our cookies, or did not accept our "Focus" cookies, or returns a "stale" or "old" cookie, you may need to clear cache or delete temporary files including deleting cookies, then reboot and try logging in again.

    If you have a firewall or other software running that blocks cookies, you may need to set up preferences within that software to allow cookies from freerepublic.com.

    If your system date is not set properly to today's date, it may interfere with the cookie routines.

Posting Guidelines

Broadly stated, the goals of this site are to further conservatism, expose political corruption, and recover a truly constitutional form of government. If these are not your goals, you may find another discussion site more suitable.

Free Republic expects users to follow a few simple posting guidelines (described below) and by posting to the forum you and others agree to abide by them. Free Republic reserves the right to remove any postings that are considered inappropriate. Examples of inappropriate posts are those that are off-subject or contain advertising, pornography, obscene material, racist material, bigotry, Nazi (or other hate group) material, materials promoting violence, threats or illegal acts, etc. In addition posts and posters who reveal personal information on others may be removed.

These guidelines are intended to help maintain a useful amount of order in a large site like this and to promote better posting. They may be revised without notice. Users of Free Republic should also understand that this is a privately owned, not-for-profit site and that they are guests here. The owner reserves the right to revoke posting privileges and, when necessary, to permanently ban individuals.

Here are a few dos and don'ts:

  • Do lead by example - Nothing improves a forum more than posters who reason sharply, write well, and have some perspective about it all. Be one of them.

  • Do preview - Preview twice, post once. And, ahem, close your HTML tags before you hit the reply button. (More on that below.)

  • Do keep it clean - A bruise or two between Freepers is tolerable, but refrain from abusive attacks, engaging in senseless flame wars, and using profane language. Considering the range of topics we discuss, it's hard to be a family site, but that's what we aim for when at all possible.

  • Do use common sense - If you read a post that sounds too good or strange to be true, it probably is.

  • Do stay on topic - If you are going to post an article, make sure you are placing it in the correct topic area.

  • Do include the original title - When you post an article, be sure to include the original title where appropriate. This helps users find the article and lessens the chance of a double post.

  • Do keep "vanity" posts to a minimum - Free Republic is primarily a place to discuss news, articles, and editorials. Vanity posts, creations of the poster him or herself, should meet a high standard of quality before one is even considered worthy of posting. Often a relevant current thread or general announcement, catch-all thread is a much better choice for a brief question or comment.

  • Don't jump threads - If you get involved in an argument in one thread, it's considered poor manners to restart the previous argument in the middle of an unrelated thread.

  • Don't spam - Post your message once. If you are not sure if it has posted, check the latest posts page.

  • Don't violate poster privacy - Don't reveal online another poster's phone number, address, or other information that the person hasn't already made public for everyone on Free Republic. If you are asked for a friend's email address, the best advice usually is to forward the request to the friend. He or she can then decide whether to respond.

  • Don't play games - Don't represent yourself as another person, create or use another screen name to avoid a revocation of posting privileges, misrepresent the site or your role in it, and don't misattribute a contribution you've made. (Parody exceptions would apply to the latter, of course, but it should be clear what you are doing.)

  • Don't be a whiner - If you really, really find Free Republic not to your liking, let the webmaster know directly (webmaster@freerepublic.com), learn to live with it, or move along.

Posting Articles

Click on the "Post" icon at the top of any article to post a new article. Enter the source, title, author and date published for your article. Do not enter any html code in the single line entry portions of the form.

Most browsers have a cache option that will compare the server document to the copy of the document stored in cache and reload it automatically if needed. This is a very handy feature. Basic HTML

HTML is optional in the Free Republic forum. Use <p> to start new paragraphs. You may use <b> to begin bolding and <center> to center text, but please remember to end these items where appropriate with </b> and/or </center>, etc. If you post links or other advanced coding, be sure to test before posting.

Creating new paragraphs is about the only html that most posters ever need, but if you would like to learn more about html you may use any search engine on the internet to find tutorials. Simply search on "html tutorial". Here are links to a couple tutorials that I found:
