"Mr. President, this week Fannie Mae's regulator reported that the company's quarterly reports of profit growth over the past few years were "illusions deliberately and systematically created" by the company's senior management, which resulted in a $10.6 billion accounting scandal." - John McCain

If Berger was stealing classified information from the National Archives, ostensibly to help his party, either Kerry's election bid or clinton's so-called 'legacy', how does this compare to Watergate? Watergate was a burglery of DNC offices looking for information to help Nixon purportedly. So how does this rank?

LAST WEEK, the nation looked to the past with the death of President Ronald Reagan. This week, the presidential campaigns of George W. Bush and John F. Kerry, suspended out of respect to the deceased 40th president, start fresh. In that spirit, this newspaper, the first in the nation, endorses John Kerry for president. Unlike the current White House occupant, Kerry can lead America to a brighter, better future. He has shown the personal courage, compassion, intellect and skill to lead this country in a time of war abroad and economic troubles at home. He is a serious man for...

So, Cheney has to disclose all his contacts since private interests can't shape national policy, so his documents have to be released. However, we have documents showing the democrats shaping national policy illegally, and we're not allowed to discuss that. Do I have this straight? Republicans can't use Executive Privilege (unless, of course, they involved an intern) but democrats can, even though non exists. Curious.

Lately I’ve been reminded constantly of a remark that James Lileks made to me in an e-mail regarding the Writing of Essays and Other Deep Thoughts. He’s a perfectly ripe mango of annoyance, that fellow; if the man weren’t so funny and spot-on I’d like and despise him far less. But no – my admiration for him continues to grow and soon murder will be the only way for me to adequately express it. We were talking about this process in an e-mail exchange, and he said that when we chase the rabbit down the hole we never know where...

THE FRENCH have taken a beating in the media for daring to challenge George W. Bush in the U.N. and the court of international public opinion. Bashing the French for "forgetting" their salvation at the hands of the U.S. in World War II and telling jokes about French military incompetence is all the rage with the conservative punditocracy. To cite but one example, conservative columnist Fred Barnes used this howler in the pages of the Weekly Standard: "FOR SALE: French rifles...never fired, only dropped once." Barnes considers the French refusal to support the U.S. in its war on Iraq in...

To: New Jersey Voters From:Bob "Torch" Torricelli Subject: My reelection My friends, I come to you today with a heavy heart. After proudly serving as your U.S. senator for the last six years, I find myself under vicious attack. I am being accused of misdeeds, shady dealings and ethical lapses. And that's just the Senate ethics committee. You should hear what my opponent says about me. I resent Doug Forrester besmirching my integrity, when I am perfectly capable of doing it myself. Did you see the debate we had on Thursday? In case you missed it, I can give you...

Microsoft, the world's biggest software group, on Monday suffered a blow to its most important business, when Hewlett-Packard, the world's largest personal computer company, selected a rival software package for its consumer PCs. The move follows a decision last week by Dell Computer, the number two PC maker, to replace Microsoft software. Both companies said they would offer WordPerfect productivity software from Corel of Canada instead of Microsoft's Works, a scaled-down version of its top-selling Office software.

To hear his allies tell it, New Jersey Sen. Robert G. Torricelli has bottomed out. Their view: After being rocked by disclosures that he violated Senate ethics rules - and that his months of public denials had been misleading at best - the Democrat is going through a period of sustained public criticism and dismal poll results and has nowhere to go but up. His Republican opponents, however, say Torricelli hasn't seen anything yet. Their view: Once Senate candidate Douglas Forrester launches his barrage of television ads highlighting the ethics controversy, Torricelli will continue losing support, and voters will be...

Bush and Company's Grab for a Blank CheckNEW YORK -- We've been treated to some astonishingly vile images over the last two weeks: office workers hurling themselves into a hundred-floor-high abyss. A gaping, smouldering hole in the financial center of our greatest city. George W. Bush passing himself off as a patriot, even as he disassembles the Constitution with the voracious glee of piranha skeletonizing a cow."There is no opposition party," Republican congressional leader Trent Lott chillingly announced as Democratic counterpart Tom Daschle watched in silent, cowed assent after Bush's speech to a joint session of Congress. And even if ...

Sen. Robert G. Torricelli of New Jersey had warm words for John Ashcroft when the Missourian was nominated to be attorney general, but an article in yesterday's Wall Street Journal explained how the far left intimidated him and other Democrats. "But that was before the New Jersey lawmaker got a telephone call from Nancy Silverman, a New York socialite and political donor with the sort of money that can make a senator sit up and listen. Mrs. Silverman is a benefactor of [the National Abortion and Reproductive Rights Action League], and she made clear her displeasure with Torricelli . ...

PHILADELPHIA Feb. 1 - A child lies in a hospital bed with a gunshot wound. Another child lives with the guilt of accidentally pulling the trigger. NBC 10’s LuAnn Cahn is the first reporter to talk with the teen and hear how he accidentally shot his cousin. “I WOULD NEVER have a gun, any kind of weapon,” said Kathryn Brown, the victim’s mother. And so she never thought a gun could rip through her life - tear a hole in the smiling face of her 12-year-old son and imprison her 14-year-old nephew in their home while he awaits trial. “I ...

I was just reminiscing over questions that, should the coward-in-chief ever hold a news conference or, if anyone in the press ever strapped a pair on, would make for wonderful dialogue. Feel free to add any additional ones. How would you expect Chelsea to be treated as an intern? Would you have sent your daughter on trips with a gay scoutmaster? How did you survive college with an inability to grasp the Indicative form of the verb 'to be'? Why didn't you inhale? Can you indicate why your avoidance of service in Viet Nam is anything other than cowardice? Can ...
