Far be it from me or anyone else to judge this woman. Try walking in her shoes facing the most horrific thing imaginable as a parent. A single one at that without the support of a husband. Obviously she realized her own metal health and being were cascading in the pits of hell. You can bet that on her death bed it will be her daughter and these times in her life she will be thinking most about.
This fraternity was established at the College of Charleston in 1904. Beautiful campus. Unfortunately, it’s in James Clyburn’s congressional district as goes the rest of downtown historic Charleston.
The southern Fireaters could never have succeeded without the approval of wealthy southern unionists. That would change when increasing northern Republican antislavery rhetoric and violence turned southern unionists into secessionists. The fear of violent slave insurrection had become too great to bear. Read about Nat Turner’s raids and murders of white Virginians and Denmark Vessey in Charleston. With 1/4th the population of the north and contributing 72% of federal revenues, the south was pushed against the wall. The train of abuses (financially, culturally and safety) reached a crescendo.
The monument was designed by world renown sculptor Moses Ezekiel, a Jewish VMI Cadet who served in Robert E. Lee’s Army. I believe he is interred there. The removal of the monument should therefore be seen as a violation of Jewish law as regards the disturbance of a gravesite. I’ve donated to the defense in this legal battle. There will be a peaceful reckoning.
Kissinger was brilliant. No other Sec of State since was as respected by our enemies since. I can think of few others who did more than Kissinger to thwart Soviet influence in the western hemisphere.
