Herman Cain At The Center Of Tonight's Debate: Who Won?
Elephant Watcher ^ | October 11, 2011

"Who won the latest Republican debate? Going into the debate, Mitt Romney was the frontrunner. After the debate, he remains the frontrunner. Of all the candidates, Romney appeared the most presidential. He is becoming increasingly skilled in debates. Other candidates attempted to challenge Romney on a number of occasions, but he used them as opportunities to promote his candidacy. In some ways, Herman Cain was in the center of the debate. The crowd enjoyed Cain, but he runs the risk of becoming a one-note candidate, known only for his "9-9-9" plan. As for Rick Perry, he was not harmed as he was in previous debates, but he was flat. He seemed afraid of hurting himself. Romney and Cain were comfortable.

The Republican debate this evening had an unusual format. Rather than having each candidate at his own podium, as in all the previous debates, the candidates were seated at one big table. In the past, this format has been known to encourage the candidates to be a bit more civil. For some reason, candidates are less comfortable attacking each other when seated together...."

Buncha one trick pony bad actors stiffly declaiming memorized mini speeches. Rick Perry won.

Although not my first choice, I will have no problem voting and supporting Romney if he’s the nominee.

Vote your heart in the primary, and your mind in the General.

Spot on.
Folks, like it or not, we're looking at Romney as our nominee.

Perry looked like a damned deer in the headlights all night, like he was surprised he was sitting at the table.
Rather a lot like Bush actually, only without the self deprecating humor.

I liked Cain, before I heard all that stuff about his Federal Reserve involvement.

Everyone seems to agree that Bachmann did well, and has always done well, but she is written off. The Establishment fears a committed, principled Christian conservative, which means her or Cain, period. No one else. The phony Perry campaign drained support which would otherwise have gone to Bachmann. Thanks a lot, Perrybots, for trying to foist another fumblemouthed “compassionate liberal” on us. You did the Left’s work for them. Now go and collect your 30 pieces of silver.

It’s a little ridiculous to criticize Cain as being “one-note” when the discussion of the evening was limited to the economy, and pretty much everyone agrees that some change in current taxation is central to restimulating it. Cain’s approach just happens to be his 999 plan.

It’s not like he was responding to questions on foreign policy, abortion, gay marriage and the military.

I agree, Bachmann did a great explaination on the housing bubble, and that is why I give her #2. She didn’t hurt herself, eventhough the 666 play-on-words was pretty lame without specifics.

Newt was definately the smartest person in the room; and the suggestion that Dodd/Faggot should be investigated was outstanding.

God forgive me, but I will NOT vote for Rinoromney.

UGH. Just thinking about him makes me want to throw up. I just can't stand the guy! I really can't. There's just something about that man I can't stomach.
I see myself staying home. I'm afraid I'd barf - no joke - on the voting machine.

Romney did the best, though Cain did well. It was Perry’s best debate, but that’s a low standard. I think thing’s are pretty much unchanged.

I liked the format a lot.

If Cain was “one-note” with 999, then Perry was one-note with that energy mantra of his.

I listened and gave points to the answers that I found sensible. I haven’t done a tally yet.

But, my overall sense was that Paul, Cain, Gingrich, came across the best, with Romney a strong 4th.

I like Bachman, and would be happy to vote for any of the above.

I respect Santorum, but do not think he is strong enough to dominate in D.C.

I came away with a strong dislike of Hunstman- too patronizing, too smugly self-satisfied, too arrogant, and too clueless about the challenges we face.

Paul actually has the best handle on the crap ahead, but is probably not electable. He is our prophet-messenger that we will ignore - and so we will get what we deserve - our dire fate when we elect one of the others.

But, anyone of these is better than the mess we presently have.

Yeah if Romney gets the nom I’ll write in Cain (at least at this point, could go Newt)

Actually Santorum said what really needed to be said about families and poverty. It was him that exposed the elephant in the room about single parent households. I think his manufacturing plan has potential and he is likely right about Cain’s 9-9-9 plan not passing. I’m not supporting Santorum, but he didn’t commit political suicide tonight. Someone needed to strongly challenge Cain’s plan some and he did.

Romney is a slime ball. I think those must have been “metric” minutes he was given, because they had more than 60 seconds in them.

That Washington Compost reporter really had a thing about Perry. I became sympathetic to him after her questions. It was clear that panel wants Mittens to be the GOP nominee. They kept Romney in full view and marginalized almost everyone else.

Newt did well. Huntsman was the pits.

It’s really nice that people are again saying good things about Bachmann after the last few weeks since Perry got in the race. I thought she did great tonight although I do not think she will be the candidate.

Perry cannot put a coherent sentence together. And for the first hour he appeared to be sleepy. What’s up with him?

I didn’t watch the debate tonight. The first paragraph sounds also identical to what I remember reading after the last debate.

Cain did well, but he is to succinct, he needs to speak longer, he doesn’t use all the time granted to him, as a politician that is an amazing quality, but not sure it’s smart at this point.

Bachmann, I always liked her, I would like to see her numbers improve.

We are so screwed.

If Romney is the nominee (and yes, he is a RINO), he would still be light years better than Obama...our country might still have a chance. But my fear is, some will not be convinced that a vote for Romeny is better than Obama. With Obama, our destruction is certain, with Romney, well, at least we have a fair chance of surviving.

My first choice right now is Cain, but I'm committed to voting for whomever the GOP primary winner is. The other option is simply too depressing to think about.

The Democrats must be wetting themselves knowing they've already beat us...at least if Romney becomes the nominee.

As I said, we are so screwed.

Perry always looks confused during these debates - especially when the camera is not on him but he’s visible to the audience. Also, he does appear to be without a sense of humor - unlike, as you point out, his twin, President Bush.

I have to agree...I have that gut instinct about Romney that I can’t get beyond. Get him out of the equation and I would gladly hold my nose in the both for most of the others...except for Newt-I don’t mind saying it but it breaks my heart he is unelectable - a Newt/Herman ticket would be incredible (IMHO). Perry was done when he started trashing conservatives.

Heck, Gov. Perry was done when he first thought his kaow-bow-boots and a rinky-dink story about shooting a yote with a ho pissel would walk him into the White House.

Quick, somebody post the LaRue Tactical pics...
