I will try to jot enough notes while listening to the video to catch the basics in case you don't want to watch it. Video at link asserts millions of devices already infected with malware capable of taking down the internet (including peripherals like webcams, video recorders etc.). Netlab360 warns that millions of devices already have been infected by IoT_reaper malware and the infection is rapidly expanding. Netlab360 says vulnerable "device IP's are being queued into the system that will then be injected into this malicious code." This attack was discovered mid-September and was based on the source code for the Mari (sp?) bot-net. That particular attack infected Netflix, Amazon, Spotify, Twitter, CNN etc. The Reaper malware supposedly built onto the Mari sourcecode about 100 more functions. The new code is supposedly injected into vulnerable devices for use in staging a later, larger event. That's the jist of the first 1 min 48 seconds of the 3 min 10 second video. was infected I have been online since like 81 first time infected I had microsoft on the phone for hours trying to fix things.
Listening further, the vlogger reports that the code is being examined but no one can figure out what the big event is. What’s more, it’s theorized to be capable of creating cyber chaos.
What fixed it? 4 geeks or something a mere mortal could do? :)
It is IP related cause my computer at my mom’s house wasn’t affected so it had nothing to do with my name or password. Guess where I am yea mom’s house and she makes an awesome meal

Is anybody here running Malwarebytes (Premium) having issues after the last new version install?

The method I use has avoided virus infections since 1987.
I use a cheaply bought ($50 used laptop) computer for financial transactions only. So there are only 4 web sites I visit on this computer, all large corporations. I never go to any other sites, and never read emails on this computer. Only way I can get infected is if those 4 multi-Billion outfits get infected without knowing it. Also my visiting those 4 sites is very infrequent, only on as needed basis.
For all other work, like paying utility bills, emails, surfing the net, etc, I use a fairly new computer. I do not use any anti-virus software on this. If I get infected (only adware so far) by a virus, or when computer becomes sluggish, I simply re-format the hard drive and reload fresh copy of windows from CD. That kills every virus and disease. Then it is 30 more minutes to reload software and backed up data.
Both computers run fast without any anti-virus bogging it down.
I should add to above post that first thing I did on the used laptop was format the hard drive and load a fresh copy of windows.

I wipe the machine, load Linux Mint and Virtual Box. Run Virtual Box and clean install Windows into that VM. Then keep a copy of that VM one a flash drive that I lock away.
Of course, I work in IT Security and people think I am paranoid.

Yup. I was trying to figure out why my PC (Win 7) was locking up a couple times a day. Had to cut the power to reboot. I thought it was a MS update that was doing it. I got a notice today that my free trial Malwarebytes (Premium) had ended. So did the slowness and lockups

Yup. I’m using it on ubuntustudio. I’m running windows xp on vb in ubuntu because I have a couple of programs I use that are windows only and shutting down/restarting a dual boot is a pain.
It’s not too tricky to set up but don’t even ask a question on their forum. I’ve done some searching and reading there and all I see are rude answers. READ THE MANUAL is the gist of the answers. The manual is pretty thorough at least, especially for something open source.
Once you get the hang of it, it’s pretty easy. You do need an iso for each os you want to install. It has virtual drive ware built in for mounting an iso or even a floppy. A floppy would have to be an ima image. One of my windows programs requires a floppy to be used as an install key. Worked out well.
Just search your package manager/software center for virtualbox. You’ll also need the guest additions iso as it has all the data, hardware, drivers etc for emulating different operating systems within vb. That one’s virtualbox-guest-additions-iso. Another one you’ll want is virtualbox-ext-pack for extra capabilities. I use synaptic package manager and those are the actual package names with the dashes. You could use the terminal, sudo apt-get with those package names.
Don’t know if you know about synaptic but it’s way faster than any of the software centers. It doesn’t advertise any $$ software at you either. Bigger selection too I think. Still all comes from ubuntu/canonical repositories.
It was the Premium service that they upgraded me to for free as a trial. I didn’t even ask for it. They just did it and screwed up my PC. I am back to the regular free and everything is back to normal. One other thing, it prevented me from resetting to an earlier date as I was trying to trouble shoot.
