It suddenly occurred to me that this subsite of my website might be of interest to a conservative group like FR. Even though we all were far more enthusiastic over W's potential and kindness back then than we are today. But the images still make me nostalgic for a time when I believed and hoped. Though now I finally believe those hopes might be fulfilled through President Trump. But I still enjoy these old pictures.

Nice memories. While I suspect this may be one of the kinder gentler replies you receive, I too admired W, warts and all, in no small part because he was the only alternative to Algore who would have been an unmitigated disaster.

George W. rose from what would no doubt have been a mediocre Presidency to lead the nation with strength and resolve at a time when we needed it most. He made mistakes and I wish he’d done many things differently, but I also know that hindsight is 20/20 and time has a way of coloring memory. That said, I am VERY glad we are hopefully at the end of the Bush dynasty, and wish W all the success in the world - at painting.

Although I was hoping for the best, I knew from the start we were in trouble with W and his nonsensical “compassionate conservatism” (read “Leftist Light”). I knew his dad was a loser from the start and feel that making GHW Bush VP was Reagan’s biggest mistake - it lead to 28 years of unconstitutional expansion of the feds and socialism.

The bushes might as well change their last name to Obama or clinton.
That’s about how much I care about what they say or do.

Here is a scary thought. Except for the thankfully groundbreaking presence of Donald Trump in the 2016 Presidential race, we might have been looking at nothing but Bush as President on the Republican side since the presidency of Ronald Regan! Three of them. Bush, Bush, Bush. At the start of 2016, the press portrayed Jeb! as the inevitable Republican nominee.

Both Bushes were bad news - the first clue was the older one was a CIA boy - and gave them too much power. He un-did the restrictions of regulations that Reagan provided - was a world socialist enabler - entangled us in the Middle east at $1T/year - still on going.

They are ‘cartel socialists’ - Socialism lite is still socialism and it hurts people.

Once Bush opened his mouth to criticize Trump, after 8 years of Obama selective mutism, I lost all respect for him.

No thanks. Not going back to the good old days of the Bushes and Bob Michel's Republican Party.

The days of walking around with a "kick me" sign on our backs is over!

I don’t care how “nice” he was; he hasn’t been “nice” lately. I voted for him solely because of the opposition; I don’t find that he was materially better in power. He’s been a real bootlicker since he got out of office. And I didn’t like his disastrous war or the fake excuse he used to get us into it. The major mistake Reagan made was in putting his father (who had lost two senate races in Texas and could only win a safe Republican House seat) in as VP - otherwise, the Bushes would have been nothing in politics other than another monied family through inheritance where the father held a series of appointed sinecures. I don’t miss any of them, not one bit.

Freeper post: "Once Bush opened his mouth to criticize Trump, after 8 years of Obama selective mutism, I lost all respect for him."

And, it is Trump's devotion to the idea of "national sovereignty" and "America first" combined with the Bushes' criticism of him (as opposed to their silence on the 8-year rule of Obama/Jarrett) which has exposed their absolute commitment to globalism over the George Washington idea of national sovereignty.

GWB was a male cheerleader who would never have gotten far in life without "my daddy"'s name and big fat wallet behind him. Who was a bully and a thug wooing gullible evangelicals with cheap talk about "Christ... he changed my heart" while harboring within that same heart insane delusions of being a wartime leader like Churchill and FDR. He was a proud and arrogant man who strutted around as if he had a beer keg under each arm and at least acted like a dry drunk. George W. Bush was an incompetent idiot who glorified himself and reveled in the cult that too many Christians and "conservatives" built around him but conveyed not one damn whit of genuine humility before God and others... unless they were from Saudi Arabia. "Dubya" undermined the Constitution, pillaged the treasury, betrayed our trust... and set America back more generations than did the Vietnam War.

And anyone who confesses to still admire George W. Bush, his cronies, and everything they stood for and STILL stand for by colluding with their Uniparty fellow travelers against Trump, is an irredeemable blithering fool.

The worst feeling in the world is that of having been betrayed by someone you supported and defended wholeheartedly.

Along with the feeling of hurt and betrayal is the self-condemnation for ever having believed the betrayer, and going out on a limb to defend him. I lost friends, jobs, customers, and clients (which meant taking a financial hit that I could not afford) because I defended President Bush against leftist attacks back in the day. I did not join FR till 2009, so I did not even have this forum to express myself back then.

That is why there is so much bitterness on this site against George W. Bush. Many people who supported him now look back and think, “How Could I have been so stupid?”, which is a horrible feeling. Nobody likes to think that they have been “Had” no matter where they stand politically.

Being a victim of a con is a sure-fire way to feel like a JERK for allowing oneself to have been deceived, for ignoring red flags, and for making excuses for people against one’s better judgement. That anger gets translated into real resentment and loathing, and is perfectly understandable.

I can’t stand Gore, Kerry, or the Clintons, but I never supported them, so I don’t have the added element of “Betrayal” added to my list of grievances against them.

Just a possible explanation of some of the more bitter postings you are receiving on this thread.
