Reminds me of the young man who went home and told his mother that he enlisted in the Marines.

“But, why?” his mother exclaimed. “Why would you do that?”

“Because I’m tired of taking orders around here!” the man replied.

In 1969 I was assigned to MCAF Tustin and while I was off-base but still in uniform, a woman came up to me, 10-year-old boy in tow and said "I'd NEVER let my son join the Marines!"

I looked at her and her boy for a couple of seconds and then said: "Ma'am, I never asked my mother to join the Marines - and when your son is a man, he won't ask you either".

The little guy grinned at me and she dragged him off without a further word.
