Army General Pressured Assessment Panel to Help Career of 'Ineffective' Officer

Story from ~ 2 Months ago: One of the Army's top generals may have abused his authority and subverted the service's process for selecting senior leadership in what some officials have described to Military.com as a conspiracy to prop up a subordinate officer who was deemed unfit for command.

A Military.com investigation found that Gen. Charles Hamilton, who oversees Army Materiel Command, spent about a month last year trying to pull strings behind the scenes for a female lieutenant colonel to breeze through the service's Battalion Commander Assessment Program, or BCAP. This included directly lobbying at least three generals on the assessment panel and successfully pushing officials to let the lieutenant colonel get a second board two days after she failed the first.

The interference became so egregious that the director of the Army Command Assessment Program, Col. Robert O'Brien, penned a memo chronicling Hamilton's conduct on Nov. 1, immediately after the lieutenant colonel was deemed unfit twice in two assessment panels within 48 hours.

"This was a pressure campaign. [Hamilton] has a lot of influence; this violated the integrity of how the best officers are selected to run units," one general with direct knowledge of the situation told Military.com on the condition of anonymity to avoid retaliation. "This was abnormal; it was unprofessional. He should have known better.

Another version of the story: Four-star Army general suspended after pressuring panel over unfit officer

In the assessment, the process is completely blind, where five generals are pulled at random to interview an unnamed candidate hidden behind a curtain. Officers claim this is to avoid any bias. The assessment also consists of a physical fitness test, examinations of communication skills, and psychological evaluations.

Wow, that seems excessive. What issues did the Army have that required initiating this kind of process?

The military has always had issues but it was a helluva lot more effective when it didn’t have to deal with female issues much.

The general is black.

I’ll bet $50 donation to FR that the unqualified LTC is also black.

It’s how the supply side of the Army has worked for 40 years.

I bet the FEMALE light colonel was very appreciative of the general’s diligent work on her behalf.

“Military.com is withholding the female officer’s name because it found no evidence of wrongdoing on her part.”

Yeah sure, I’m sure she was completely unaware. 👌 SMH

I saw the same thing with a female chaplain back in the 1990's. She was moved from base to base because she was a terrible chaplain, and officer, yet higher command tried to promote her, using her as the "poster child" for female officers.

When she showed up at the base I was stationed at, no one liked her, she persecuted me because I was a "renegade Methodist" (she was United Methodist, I was Free Methodist), she treated the Catholic priest terribly (and he was the nicest guy you could ever meet), and after a year the the wing commander finally demanded that HQ SAC move her out, "or else." He was one commander no one messed with, and she was shipped to Hickam AB. When one of our other chaplains found out he was being assigned there, he turned it down and requested to be assigned somewhere else, all because she was there.

So yeah, I can totally believe this article.

The fact the article only refers to the woman as: “The lieutenant colonel” tells us how infected the Army bureaucracy is with wokeness and DEI stupidity.

A lot of Americans will die because of it.

Gen. Charles Hamilton's actions gave aid and comfort to the domestic and foreign enemies of the United States.

This makes me think of how Paul Fussel defined chickenshit.
Chickenshit refers to behavior that makes military life worse than it need be: petty harassment of the weak by the strong; open scrimmage for power and authority and prestige; sadism thinly disguised as necessary discipline; a constant 'paying off of old scores'; and insistence on the letter rather than the spirit of ordinances.

Chickenshit can be recognized instantly because it never has anything to do with winning the war.
