I too think it's a cop-out but you know what ... after Bush blows out Dean or whomever in Nov 2004 and the economy starts rolling and the victory in Iraq is sealed with elections and the stabilization and beginnings of a free republic in Iraq, and we take on other countries like Syria and Iran, and we (God Willing) even catch OBL or his #2 Al Zawahiri?(sp?), and Bush strengthens the Republican hold on the country so that we are assured of Republican dominance for at least another 4 years ....

THEN TIME CAN GIVE HIM MOTY AWARD!

By then he'll be man-of-the-decade in reality but we shall see.

Stuff like this is exactly why Rumsfeld is such a great leader, as is Bush.

A good leader gives credit to his whole team.

Dang you're right ... socialist realism invades our American journalism... if the shoe fits, they wear it, eh?

It probably means nothing but what I was thinking when I posted that was, here is Rumsfeld recommending the Soldier as the Person of the Year (good choice), while Time was looking for a reason NOT to name W. Could've made their job easier and given them cover at the same time. I'll have to remember to look at the magazine to see how the caveat is worded.

The silliest thing in the illustration was the woman soldier. She just looked out of place - with real girlish lips and a come hither look. What are these people smoking at Time?

So a female soldier has no right to look feminine??? And just what is a "come hither" look? She's just looking at the camera!

I think Orwell said that soldiers should be mean strong men who protect us by visiting our enemies in the middle of the night. I don't think women belong in the military.

I cannot tell you how happy I am that people like you are NOT in charge of who gets to join the military. You see, ever since I was a little girl, I dreamed of one day becoming an officer in the Army. I loved war movies. I joined the Navy for a while, but did not reenlist because I really wanted to be an Army officer. Now, many years later, my dream is coming true--I was commissioned less than two weeks ago, and will be a Captain when I go active duty. Thank God I wasn't held back by someone like you. Oh, yeah, I'm a conservative who detests feminists.

Couldn't one of them have been a woman?

Look closely. The center soldier is a woman.

You're right, Captain. I found their names on Yahoo News. Congratulations on your commission!

Time Names U.S. Soldiers 'Person of the Year'

The three were named as Sgt. Marquette Whiteside, 24 from Pine Bluff, Arkansas, SPC. Billie Grimes, 26, from Lebanon, Indiana, a medic and the only female soldier in the unit, and Sgt. Ronald Buxton, 32, from Lake Ozark, Missouri.

Thank you! (Though I'm only 1st Lt. right now, until I go active.) ;)
