Dallas News ^

Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry is garnering less support among Asian Americans who plan to vote Nov. 2 than his party's nominee in the last election, former Vice President Al Gore, according to a poll.People of Asian ancestry make up about 4.2 percent of the U.S. population, according to the Census Bureau. In 2000, Gore won 55 percent of the vote among this group compared with 41 percent for Bush, according to Voter News Service exit polls cited by the polling firms. Bush "has halved the advantage the Democratic nominee enjoyed in the last election," Brian Nienaber, a research analyst for the Alexandria, Virginia-based Tarrance Group told reporters.

Also credit goes to the President for putting Asian Americans in prominent (and not token) cabinet positions e.g Labor Secretary, Transportation Secretary. These things don't go unnoticed in their communities.

THAT KERRY KNEW AHEAD OF TIME TO BE FALSE!
September 6, 2004 -- **BREAKING** In Yesterday's Lies: Steve Pitkin and the Winter Soldiers, Scott Swett tells the story of a former VVAW member and participant in the Winter Soldier Investigation who states that John Kerry and others pressured him to give false testimony about American atrocities in Vietnam. After more than 33 years, Pitkin is the first Winter Soldier "witness" to file a legal affadavit regarding that event...
My name is Steve Pitkin, age 20, from Baltimore. I served with the 9th Division from May of '69 until I was airvaced in July of '69. I'll testify about the beating of civilians and enemy personnel, destruction of villages, indiscriminate use of artillery, the general racism and the attitude of the American GI toward the Vietnamese. I will also talk about some of the problems of the GIs toward one another and the hassle with officers.

90% of Vietnamese-Americans prefer Bush to Kerry
According to a poll conducted by Cali Today, a Vietnamese language newspaper in California, 90% of Vietnamese-Americans said they would vote for President Bush versus 10% who would vote for Senator Kerry. In Vietnam, however, people interviewed by the Associated Press who had views on US politics appeared to prefer Kerry to Bush because of his past support for normalizing relations with Vietnam.
On the other hand, Chinese-Americans appear to support Kerry over Bush by a margin of four to one.
To: Nathan Zachary
According to the poll in the article
Chinese - 58% Kerry
Laotians - 65% Kerry
Vietnamese - 71% Bush
Filipino - 56% Bush

You can add my immediate family to the Kerry side (Chinese American). :-( Despite the fact that my family got where it is at, by immigrating here (legally), and worked for it, and overall, being VERY successful...they will be supporting Kerry this election cycle. Guess living the San Francisco Bay Area will do that.
Still, I...while pretty much alone, will be voting for Bush in my family.
P.S. Wonder what my highschool Vietnamese friends will be voting for this election cycle? Last election (when they weren't old enough to vote yet), they supported Gore. Sort of lost contact with them through time though so I guess I won't know for sure for a while. :-(

When I lived in Southern Cal, my Chinese American (from Hong Kong) friends were the same - extremely hard working, highly educated, traditional family values...and all democrats! They 'lived' as Republicans but were distrustful of the party. It's a mystery.
