Why I (a Chinese American) Vote For Bush

Why I (a Chinese American) Vote For Bush

yxm_2004

Consider these facts:

· The majority of the minority votes went to democrat party last election. Among minorities, black votes went 9 to 1 in favor of democrat party. Asian voted Republican Party only 3 out of 10.

· The most recent poll showed that minority would vote for democrat party pretty much the same way as last election.

· A Chinese American student walked into a conference room where the high school Young Republican Club was holding a meeting. Those young republicans immediately thought that Chinese girl stepped into the wrong room since there was a Young Democrat Club down the hall.

· In 2000 election, two third of people who go church or other religious worship voted for Bush However, that’s not the case for minorities, including my fellow Chinese American. We saw the democrat presidential candidate all around Black church for the purpose beyond worshiping God.

The similar facts can go on and on. I think that you got the picture here. Minority is the most solid voting base for democrat candidate last election and will be this election. I think that I understand in some extent why black and Hispanic vote overwhelmingly for democrat.

However, I was somehow confused by why Asian, especially my fellow Chinese American voted the same way.

In order to cast my first ever presidential vote, I spent quite some time to conduct due diligence for both parties, and here are the results and my decision of whom I will vote for.

Part One: National Security and War on Terror

In recently interview, when Democrat presidential candidate John Kerry was asked how 9/11 changed him, he answered that it didn’t change him much. But I believe that millions of Americans were changed profoundly by 9/11. I am one of them.

One of the most profound change that 9/11 brought to me was that Islamic terrorists are willing to kill as many innocent people as they could, including use of the WMD. Before the planes hit the Twin Towers, nobody, but the head of terrorists knew that plane could be used as “missile” to slam into the buildings which host tens of thousands of people working there.

When Bin Laden declared war against America in 1994 and urged muslin to killAmerican with and without wearing uniform, most of Americans didn’t take it seriously. Did American learn the lesson from 9/11? Millions did, but a lot of still may not.

Before 9/11, the crew and passengers were mandated to follow highjacker’s orders if the flight is highjacked. The logical mind is that highjackers would get the plane to a remote place and negotiate for something. After 9/11, the logical changed dramatically. I fly over 200,000 miles before 9/11. I did 150,000 miles after 9/11, and I know there is no way that terrorist can do what they did before 9/11.

The tap played by 9/11 commission told us how the terrorist on the plane lied to the aviation control tower by saying that they were going to fly back to airport, and the control tower was cheated because they had not thought about that terrorist would used airplane as weapon to kill thousands of innocent people, and cause American business lost trillions of dollars, and millions of jobs.

How to define 9/11 is the divide line. Is a war or just a crime (according to Kerry, terrorism is just like prostitution)?

How to deal with terrorists is the divide line. Should the US use military force to kill terrorist and the topple down the states that harbor terrorist and the states that view America as their enemy or just use law enforcement to deal with crime? Should the US wait for another attack or take pre-empt action.

How to view the terror threat is the divide line. Is WMD + Terrorists the ultimate threat or 9/11 is just isolate incident, and there is no terror threat at all? (Michael Moore’s words)

How to cut the roots of terrorism is the divide line. Should US and the willing coalition to topple down Taliban and Saddam, and spread freedom and democracy at mid-east, or just kill terrorists, and kill or arrest Bin Laden?

I believe that majority of Americans agree with Bush administration for followings:

· It’s a war.

· The US should use military force to kill terrorist and topple down the states supported terrorism.

· The ultimate threat is WMD + Terrorists.

· The US and coalition should topple down Taliban for harboring terrorism, and Saddam to terrorism connection (not 9/11) and WMD.

But, I also agree that war in Iraq is troubling millions of American because there is no WMD found yet. I will also give you the most recent inspector report that Saddam destroyed his WMD in middle of 90s, which means that there is no WMD at the point when coalition invaded Iraq in 2003.

I had a conversation with one of my closed Chinese friends about this year’s election. He admitted to me that the only reservation to Bush is the Iraq war since there is no WMD found in Iraq. I fully understood that Iraq war is a legitimate concern with Bush. Millions of Americans have the same reservation. I ever had the same feeling too. But I came out with believing that Bush made the right decision at a time when all those evidences and intelligence presented to him.

9/11 has been the worst attack on the US soil. What can worse than 9/11? WMD.

Let’s think about these:

· Saddam had WMD and used it against his own people.

· Saddam had invaded neighbor country.

· Saddam violate 12 UN resolutions in 12 years, including the 1414 stated disarm or face serious consequence.

· Saddam supported terrorist with $25000 who blow themselves off at Israel

· Every country and UN thought that Saddam was hiding WMD, including that Saddam thought he had WMD.

· Saddam had connection with Al-Qaida (Please read 9/11 report).

· CIA director told Bush that Iraq had stock pile of WMD, and Invading Iraq a “slam dunk”

· Al-Qaida is aggressively seeking WMD.

· Russia warned the US that Saddam planned to attack the US.

Remember, at that time, nobody knew that there is no WMD. It’s the opposite that everybody believed that Saddam was hiding WMD. In the case of post 9/11 and basing on the evidence and intelligence, Bush decided to take care of the worst possible case – WMD + Terrorist by toppling down Saddam and sons who are and will be much worse than Saddam himself. This is the right and logical decision.

Zaqarwei, the current number one terrorist who beheaded hostages and bomb Iraqi and children, was at Afghan and running terror training camp at the time when coalition invaded Afghan. Zaqarwei was wounded and fled to Iraq after coalition took down Taliban. Zaqarwei ran terror training camp at Iraq before coalition invaded Iraq. Zarqawi has been seeking chemical weapon for a long time.

A friend told me that Bush attacked Iraq was largely for political purpose. I don’t know how Iraq war can help Bush politically. But I do know if Bush didn’t invade Iraq, he would have 20 points lead of John Kerry. Bob Woodward, the author of “Plan of Attack”, interviewed Bush and Bush said that he would like to be a 2 terms’ president, but if Iraq was cast him the second term, he would go for. He put Americans’ safety ahead of his presidency.

I still believe that the primary purpose of the wars is to make this country safer. At the same time, I cheered that the wars in Afghan and Iraq liberated 50 millions people from the brutal tyrant. I don’t understand why the left wing don’t cheer for while they pretend that they are the ones compassionate and fight for woman’s right. I think that for them woman’s right means – abortion right.

Recently, whenever I walked into the daycare facilities where my 4 years old daughter is taken care, I thought about the tragic event at Russia school where Islamic terrorists shot and killed more than 100 children, and I also don’t know how the US government can put metal detectors and assign police at every school and daycare center.

Since 9/11, there is not a single attack on the US soil. Thanks God. Thanks Bush Administration, FBI, CIA, Police, and our Troop. If you pay attention to media reporting, you will heard and saw a lot of reports about lots of terrorist cells, and plots were destroyed by our law enforcement in home land. One terrorist tried to purchase shoulder missile from an under cover Federal agent. Terrorist intended to shot airplane down when airplane take off or land.

Do not forget. Our troops are fighting terrorist oversea, which protect our safety here. Offense is the best defense!

Please not buy into Michael Moore’s lie of “no threat”.

I strongly agree the notion of “war is not the ONLY solution”. Comedian Jerry Seinfeld had a line a couple months when he said Bush Administration’s war in Afghan. He said, it’s unbelievable that we dropped bomb and food bag almost at the same time. In a matter of fact, I agreed with Jerry.

That’s why Bush’s doctrine is to take down the tyrant, cut the roots of WMD, and spread freedom and democracy at the heart of mid-east. Many people have doubt about if freedom and democracy can work at muslin world. Just answer this question. Why there is no suicide bomber from Turkey, which is the muslin country too.

John Kerry attacked Bush not to kill or capture Bin Laden and move to Iraq. Bin Laden must be brought to justice. But killing or capturing Bin Laden is not the end of terrorism. The final answer to terrorism is freedom, democracy, prosperity at Islamic countries, most of which are now indoctrinating and preaching hatred to the west.

Zaqarwei wrote a letter a few months and said that free and democratic Iraq would be a blow to his mission. That’s why current Iraq is the center of fighting war on terror.

This year there have been three major elections in close related to the war on terror. Terrorist won one at Spain. The coalition has won 2. One is at Australia, and another one is at Afghan. The election on Nov. 2 in the US would be a bigger one to test Americans’ will.

Russian president Putin said Monday that international terrorists in Iraq hoped their attacks would unseat President Bush in the election next month, and that such an outcome might embolden their efforts and lead to more terrorist acts.

We should take seriously to the statement from the president of a country where 2 planes were bombed by terrorists, and hundreds of people, including 150 children, were murdered by terrorists a couple months ago.

For the safety of this country, my family, myself, and my next generations, I will vote for President Bush because I believe that terrorism must be defeated by force, freedom, and democracy.

Very humbling for a first generation American of Korean descent. 9/11 is the worst terrorist attack in history, not just in America. 3,000 innocent lives destroyed on that horrible day and the World Trade Center towers destroyed.

Asian voted Republican Party only 3 out of 10.

This is surprising to me. I always thought that Asians were more conservative in general.

Besides, I thought Asians weren't real minorities. Real minorities need Democrats to help them succeed.

That was sarcasm, by the way.

Ten years later many americans are still in denial. How many times must we be attacked before people understand.

I am also a American-Born Chinese from Boston and I notice the same left leaning attitude amongst all my friends.

- Just about all the ABC's attend college and many become brain washed by liberal profs.
- Parents from the mainland still have a communist ideology, which greatly influences their children's opinions.
- Just like all Americans, they are exposed to main stream media and newspapers like the Boston Globe and Ny Times.
But i'm trying to spead the word, oh yeah, this is my first post

You are right (thinking). I have never met a group of people predisposed to an idea because of the color of their skin. Again my point is proven.
