> It is probably more capitalist now than the US is.

Fellow FReeper visualops posted that his co-worker friend showed him a paper their family got from the Vietnamese government recently saying to move the dead from the family cemetery as the Hanoi government decided they “needed” the land. I guess that Hanoi decided to adopt our concept of “Eminent Domain”. But seriously, I have heard it said that the Vietnamese economy is a mixed economy like China’s, with somewhat more government involvement.

Vietnam’s economy is booming and a huge amount of capital is being spent on high tech investments in the country. Many western companies are using it as a base of operations since the government has adopted a very capitalist attitude. The Vietnam War is over for the Vietnamese and was over a long time ago. The American involvement will end up being a small footnote in their history books saddled between the French on one side and the Sino-Vietnamese & Cambodian-Vietnamese Wars on the other. The only place it still lives on is in the minds of Americans.
