You know, several years ago--probably the mid-1980s--there was a book that came out, Black Days at Black Rock, in which the writer, who had worked for CBS News, mentioned von Sauter quite often in those pages.....but most importantly, wrote much about the tactics and techniques of Dan Rather.

After reading that book, I was sure that both Dan Rather and CBS News would take a hit, self-destruct, although of course I had no idea it would happen as it did.

Twenty years ago, one could have figured out that Dan Rather was going to trip over his own feet.

There was another called "Reflections in a Bloodshot Eye", if memory serves, and it didn't look very well upon van Sauter. And isn't van Sauter the one to push along a major network into the soundbites and three legged dog stories and entertainment tie-ins so common to local news? It got worse during those years.

I wonder what Tisch might think of all this. He's the one that drove Rather to say "courage". In retrospect, I wonder if Tisch didn't do enough bloodletting.
