He never killed anyone (to my knowledge) and he's served 25 years. That's hardly a slap on the wrist. If he'd shot a liquor store owner, he'd have been out years ago.
Especially here in CA. 2nd degree murder will get you only about 10 years if you plea bargain. I think attempted murder might get you a hard nickel in this state.
