Poll: Condoleezza Rice Up, Hillary Clinton Down
NewsMax ^ | February 20, 2006 | Carl Limbacher

A poll released on Monday shows that the presidential prospects of Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice continue to improve, while Hillary's Clinton's numbers are on the skids.

Forty-eight percent of those surveyed told a Siena College/Hearst survey that they'd back Dr. Rice if she decides to seek the White House in 2008. That's up from 42 percent last year.

But Mrs. Clinton's poll numbers seem stuck in reverse. Forty-four percent of voters nationwide now say they wouldn't back Mrs. Clinton - up from 37 percent last year.

In a recent Gallup survey, 51 percent said they were opposed to making Mrs. Clinton commander-in-chief.

Still, the newer survey wasn't all bad news for Hillary. Fifty-one percent told Siena that Hillary should run for president - with 48 percent saying Dr. Rice should do the same.

Four out of five respondents said they back a woman for the White House, including 91 percent of Democrats and 68 percent of Republicans.

She looks more impressive with dark hair. Blonde makes her appear to be a part of cheesy rock group.

"Condi has my vote if she decides to run."

Mine too. I'd like to see her "tighten up a bit" on her stand on abortion. But, while everyone is underestimating Hillary and the "Clintonistas", I think she would be a tough candidate in the General Election. And, I agree with Dick Morris; the only person who could beat her would be Condi.

With reference to the abortion issue: As a high school teacher until three years ago, with 80% of my students being black; I can say this: While they vote 90% Democrat, abortion is NOT acceptable, as a rule, in the black community. The last time I checked, Condi was black.

We know little if anything about Condi, yet people are ready to fall over backwards to support her.

This always baffles me in politics, especially here in FreeRepublic where there is a large concentration of politically astute people.

Also, she's never campaigned for, or held, an elected office.

Do yourself a huge favor and read up on Ms. Rice if you do not know much about her. She is the only person I want to see in the White House in 2008. Personally, her and Guliani would make a great team. Guliani, McCain, etc. are too liberal for me and the other possibilities are too conservative for the nation at large. Another Bush-like conservative president will not win in 2008.

If Hillary runs, Condi is pretty much the only one who is able to beat her.

I also like Condi because she is not your typical politician and has actually worked to get where she is.

I agree. While I like Condi I am not ready to say I would support her for President.

That's what the primaries are for, to get to know the candidates and hear their positions on the issues so we can choose the best one to represent us. First, though, I would like her to declare her candidacy for the office.

That's why I'm all for Newt in 2008. He's by far the most conservative candidate in the GOP and easily the smartest.

Yea, I was thinking the same thing. Is she pro-choice?? I would think that is a question many would want to know before throwing down their support. Personally I agree and would love to support but I really don't know where she stands on a lot of issues. If she is where Bush is , no problem. But we do not know that yet.

What that tells you... is that a lot of FReepers aren't doing handstands for what they see out there in 2008. Other than knowing the Russians inside-out... Condi is probably, pretty much the same as Giuliani.

And it baffles me why people continue to say that! Dr. Rice has written numerous books and scholarly articles. Her views, especially on Foreign Relations are there for anyone to read. I suggest you read some of her work before you claim that "we know little if anything about Condi".
