Illegals granted Social Security

The Senate voted yesterday to allow illegal aliens to collect Social Security benefits based on past illegal employment -- even if the job was obtained through forged or stolen documents. "There was a felony they were committing, and now they can't be prosecuted. That sounds like amnesty to me," said Sen. John Ensign, the Nevada Republican who offered the amendment yesterday to strip out those provisions of the immigration reform bill. "It just boggles the mind how people could be against this amendment." The Ensign amendment was defeated on a 50-49 vote. "We all know that millions of undocumented immigrants pay Social Security and Medicare taxes for years and sometimes decades while they work to contribute to our economy," said Sen. John McCain, Arizona Republican.

This needs to be reversed. Illegal aliens are not even supposed to be in this country, have no green card. What's next? Social Security for hit men?

Identity theft is a felony. Yet those that commit a felony get social security...

There must be logic there somewhere but somehow it's escaped me.

Well, it is just the Senate, this still has to go through the House, where it is dead upon arrival. Thank God for the House.

Keep the pressure on the House. Call your reps. 1-888-355-3588. Toll free...:)

"Reversed"? This still needs to go through the Conference Committee, then if it survives, be voted on again by BOTH Houses of Congress, and signed by Bush (or 2/3 override veto) to take effect. Calm down.

If this forum is any indication, the folks in Washington are going to wish they had paid more attention to the people on this issue of illegal immigration.

Price of gas - no issue, not a peep anymore.
Housing bubble - What?
War on Terror - It matters, but most of us agree, what mistakes have been made are not terrible.

This is THE issue on people's minds, it seems. I know it is the one for me. And it's the deal breaker. The republicans are torching the contract with America.

As long as you are not advocating violence, or doing anything that will put the Democrats back in the majority (do you even know the vote on this particular bill?).

The article said 44 Republicans voted to block the payouts. Any idea who the 10 who voted against the bill? I'm sure McCain was one of them from his comments in the article and I suspect the NorthEast RINO's all voted against it but I suspect there are some Republican Senators who voted against it who would surprise you.

Our good Senators (the Dems plus RINO's who voted for this Social Security thing) greatly miscalculated.

Judging from local talk shows this morning, the peasants are nail-spitting mad over this.

It will not make the final version of this bill ... if there is one.

I hope it will be stopped. Hard to calm down in view of all the craziness that has been going on recently in Washington. That anyone even dared to suggest legislation like this shows how perverted, corrupt, and mean-spirited our politicians are. We are being invaded and not only do many of our politicians wave the white flag, they even offer perks to the enemy.

This 'thing' from the senate is DOA in the House - period.

Rep JD Hayworth was just on 'Brian & The Judge' and said he will recommend to Denny Hassert that nobody from the House be appointed for the required Conference Committee.

So the senate can pass all the meaningless crap they want, like SS benefits for illegals (that's a freaking hoot) it's goin' nowhere.

So if they use a stolen social security number, how do they determine how much to give the illegal vs how much to give the citizen whose social security number it is?
