It was famous among Secial Forces Personnel back in the day. The meal is washed down at the end with a mixture of whiskey and cobra venom, which is said to prolong one's life.

Now take a deep breath and read that again. Bush Arrives in Vietnam. One would think all the Cable News shows would be breaking in to cover this historic event. Nahh
It's really nothing special. Bush is in Vietnam for the annual APEC (Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation), which happens to be held in Vietnam this year.

My husband is there now for this...here is the last email:
The room is nice .Leaving town tomorrow for Danang
staying at the hoian riverside resort. Will return on the 20th to hanoi
then
staying at the hilton hanoi. the food is good won"t see bush, the
plumbing
is fine.
I asked about the plumbing because after my trip to Africa I imagined there would be problem- LOL. Husband said it is a country full of young people.
Can't wait to hear more.

We need to ally with Vietnam to stem the expansion of China in the region.
Be careful what you wish for. The Vietnamese are more statist than the Chinese right now. Allying with all these shady banana republics just to contain China may come to bite us back in the rear. During the Cold War, Vietnam was allied with the USSR, while China despised USSR and Vietnam. China in 1978 even went to war with Vietnam shortly after our troops left, that war didn't end until 1989.
