PRESIDENTIAL NEWS OF THE DAY: Our President and First Lady were attending the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation smmit in Hanoi, Vietnam, this weekend. I'm going to let the photos do the talking today.
I have always gotten the impression that Mrs. Putin does not like the spotlight and tries to avoid it whenever she can. She shows up when the occasion demands it, such as an invitation to the WH or Prairie Chapel Ranch, or when the Putins invite the Bush's to Moscow.
What a darling poochie.
Thank you for your work, Wolfstar! The POTD is gorgeous! You reposted my two favs from yesterday, too. I just love both of these photos of GWB.
Perhaps that's really the truth of it, Gretchen. I still don't like her weasely husband, though.
Oooo...Bear, thanks for that cute photo. It's one I haven't seen before -- sigh, been too out of touch these last couple of months.
Whenever it hit, he has definitely come to the point where he needs a second wind. I know for a fact that there are accurate, prophetic people who have access to him and who have told him ahead of time some of the very severe trials and tribulations that would be coming upon this nation and upon his administration. God called George W. Bush to carry a very heavy load and so He has given him extra grace, partly in the form of prophetic words to help prepare and guide him, to be able to absorb the blows that would be unavoidable during the years from 2001 to 2009. But W is as human as any of us and the constant hammering, lying, spinning till you want to vomit, etc., have to bring a lot of wear and tear.
He and Laura really need our prayers.
You're welcome, dmd. The bay in the POTD is only a background and not the real thing, but snapped that that angle, it almost looks like the actual bay. Very lovely.
I haven't met OWF, so will have to take your word for it. The Chilean PM is pleasant looking.
They should get those scotties small rubber balls that they can get their teeth around and carry and squeeze.
Thank you Wolfstar.
Another excellent photo. Thank you both, this has been a great dose.
oh, and while we are talking about ohio
I've noted this before on the Dose, but it bears repeating from time to time. In earlier periods in our history, president were not expected to be the "mourner and comforter in chief" during national disasters. That essentially started when President Reagan did such a gracious job of it during the Challenger memorial.
But there's only so much tragedy, sorrow, grief and heartache any one person can take on before becoming burned out. GWB has had way more than his share -- and there's more coming at the hands of the Dems.
Hi tommix. You're so welcome. :)
Great pics, Wolfstar! I know some others on FR think we shouldn't do business w/VN, but they have to remember that the average age of Vietnamese is 26. They have no memories of the war. They are pro-US and those who have immigrated here are strong supporters of the US and often Christian.
I was never more touched than to see 4-5 units of vets from their army at a Memorial Day remembrance at the local cemetary. They certainly made a better showing than the 'Vets for Peace.'
When he was alive, my VN vet husband made a point of being friends w/Vietnamese immigrants here. My son, who was a SE Asia Studies major, focusing on VN, was the only non-Vietnamese president of the VN Student Association at his university, and held other offices in the club. There was a while I there that I didn't think he knew anyone who wasn't Vietnamese or Cambodian.
The Vietnamse can be wonderful people and strong friends. I'm glad we are letting go of the past a bit and opening up to people who are actually happy to have us as friends.
New topic - I just noticed the strangest thing today about my microwave, which I have had for over 14 years.* The turntable spins counterclockwise. Does that seem the way it should be for a self-respecting microwave that lives in the Northern Hemisphere?
*Okay, so I'm a bit slow on some things.
Serving as President of the US today is a hundred times more demanding than when FDR was President. It is a grueling job and President Bush is a remarkable man to hold up under it as he does.
I fully agree with your point of view, radiohead. If, as time passed and old enemies reached out a hand of frienship that we spurned, we would never have the Japanese as our staunch allies today.
I believe we expect far, far too much from our presidents -- any modern president, including WJC (ugh!), who was president during one of the easiest periods in our history. But, as you said, GWB's presidency has been orders of magnitude more demanding.
