PRESIDENTIAL NEWS OF THE DAY: Our President and First Lady were attending the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation smmit in Hanoi, Vietnam, this weekend. I'm going to let the photos do the talking today.
Well, I'm going to say good night for now. It's nearing 6:30pm here in L.A. Time to feed my critters and myself.
Every US President in history/CEO/leader listens to his/her "advisor". It's impossible for any human being to know everything about every subject. That's why there is a cabinet. Filled with people who are experts in a myriad of fields of discipline ranging from Foreign Policy to Education to Economics.
I know what you're saying. The ultimate decision is President Bush's. He'll take the credit or the blame.
He was misadvised on a host of issues. Since I'm not an expert on military strategy (although I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night) I'll stick to Economic issues:
* Naming Mitch Daniels as White House budget chief, although his only qualifications were that Bush liked him and he worked for Eli LIlly. Daniels didn't bat an eyebrow when Bush told him to make room in his budget for the Medicare drug bill or Kennedy's NCLB.
* His "advisors" were never able to convince him to once veto a bloated federal budget or any pork barrell spending.
Thank you for your post. It helps to bring the past and the present together in a better light.
One of the best, most hard-working employees I ever hired was a Vietnamese refugee. Her father was a colonel in the SVN army and she, with her family, was on the last plane out of Saigon as Saigon was falling. I can't imagine what they endured before getting here. Anyway, her English wasn't very good at first but she scored the highest on the aptitude test and had a great attitude, was super-motivated to learn, and I knew she was going to be a very good employee once her English-speaking skills caught up with her written skills. And she did not disappoint.
She broke both her arms in a car crash (as a passenger) after I hired her -- nothing kept her down.
One thing I always appreciated about her was the lack of *attitude* that comes with so many young people. She was there to learn, to work, and to do her absolute best at all times. And she was a very gracious person.
I agree about the small balls for small dogs. I got my 2 small dogs a giggle ball recently. It's the cutest thing. It rolls around and giggles and giggles some more. Alas, my 2 are "senior citizens" and they just look at it like "and you expect me to chase that thing?" Too busy reposing.
But it's small and would be great for a puppy with energy to spare. Like Beezie.
Okay, Dolly, that was ONE CHEAP SHOT, that photo post @ 113.
I say this as a native of Michigan.
The point of this thread is not to criticize the President or his advisors. The President is perfectly capable of making his own decisions. Yes, with the advice of other people, but the President knows that when he accepts advice, he must be willing to accept any consequence that comes with it.
We wuz robbed!

If I got this right, he was contrasting the surplus of the USA and our free market economy (which makes life easier for us as well as a president who must always be aware of our economic situation and try to keep it healthy and growing), with the economic structure of the other nation.

Gretchen, that is brilliant. I wish that is what I was saying. (I graduated last in my class from the Economics program. But I still have a BS in it. Q: What do you call the guy who graduated last from medical school? A: Doctor.)
Actually, I was just trying to say that Americans are KFC finger lickin, Taco Bell burrito lovin, McDonalds drive thru eatin fools. I'm right there with you. Dominos Pizza will ring my doorbell any second now.
President Bush is on a tour of nations in Asia where people are poor, starving and hungry. We're here in America where liberals have to invent problems like obesity and tobacco control to worry about.
As if getting blown up by a Islamic Fundamentalist with a dirty nuke isn't enough to worry about.
128 was for you also. Guess I am tired. Been up EARLY & a long busy day
Happy and Safe Thanksgiving to all ... and especially to our incredibly brave and wonderful troops! God bless and protect them.
.
T'was in April 2003,
...shortly after my Vietnam War U.S. 7th Cavalry Regiment led Freedom's arrival to Iraq,
...that over 1,000 Little Saigon Vietnamese Americans demonstrating in support of our Troops and their FREEDOM Mission were read a Letter outloud signed by President BUSH.
A Letter promising:
FREEDOM's Return to:
Communist Vietnam
Communist North Korea and
Communist Cuba
..as well as...
FREEDOM's Arrival to:
All the Countries of the Middle East
...as America's own best self-protection against future terrorist attacks here at home.
Have no fear, for...
FREEDOM is indeed coming to Vietnam.

You can imagine game day at their house.
I happened to be with my father in Michigan watching the Rose Bowl when the U of Washington (where I live now) was playing the U of Michigan (where I was born). It wasn't pretty. It was NOT an enjoyable Rose Bowl experience. They had NO sympathy at ALL for any good play the Dawgs made. And the result was really painful.
"President Bush is on a tour of nations in Asia where people are poor, starving and hungry. We're here in America where liberals have to invent problems like obesity and tobacco control to worry about."No kidding... The majority of people in VN are poor and fighting for their next meal on a daily basis. Here, we have liberals invent poor and problem to wrest the power from people. Un-friggin-believable!!!
Joint toaster winners - congratulations
mine takes turns...every time you use it it goes the 'other' way.
That first photo is breath taking
I can't help but notice that the President has a look of peace on his face. They're beautiful!
btw, I'm finally back on line after a nasty 36 hours of Internet trouble. Yikes! I hate when that happens!
And if I may say so...........
GO, BUCKEYES!!! Number ONE!!!
Great game! Great day to be a Buckeye.
