PRESIDENTIAL NEWS OF THE DAY: Our President and First Lady were attending the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation smmit in Hanoi, Vietnam, this weekend. I'm going to let the photos do the talking today.
You're probably right. I went in to see what my son was up to (I'm generally banished from rooms where football is being shown) and he said that we could have pulled off a win, but as usual, messed up. I did see that wrong call by a ref on one of the touchdowns. My son's head was spinning over that one. When games are like this, I've learned to just back out of the room and go do something else. I don't know why guys get so excited over football.
We were really disappointed that they didn't show the halftime show. Wanted to see the Ohio State band do their famous script with the Tuba doting the eye.
TV stations seem to think we'd rather watch their boring talking heads.
But they didn't show the halftime!!!!

He seems much more distracted than usual during a foreign trip -- these are usually times when he visibly enjoys meeting with people from other nations and all that goes with it. I don't know of any super-hot issues on the APEC agenda. When we see him looking this pensive, we usually find out in a few days what he knew that we didn't, and it's never very pretty.
From one Michigan native (and alum!) to another--I knew that I liked you, Gretchen! :)
cant you tag along as some type of consultant?
Here in Nebraska you are raised on football...from the time you are a tot, you learn the game! Both my daughters can tell you stats from teams years ago, they know plays and all the names...they are all most better than my son at it!
Thanks for the great U-M picture, Dolly! It was a great game (even if I didn't like the outcome). It would be so neat to have a rematch!
can't believe USC is tied with Cal!!!!
I think it's because they think like they're on the field during the game, their reputations and strategizing are on the line as if they were there, and they, as men, feel as though they Win or Lose Depending on Whether or Not Their Team Wins or Loses.
In other words, they get personally and intensely invested in the game, play by play, grinding hard hit, perfect 52-yard kicks for a field goal, bad calls, etc.
Dolly--I am so glad that you posted this. I love these kind of stories!
you know, i would add one more thing to the mix.. I think it is time (and the election helped blaze it) he is NOW reflecting on legacy, although that is not high priority EVER for him.
He sees Vietnam now & realizes when he is gone that Iraq in 40 or more years may also host an impressive summit. His good friend from Japan is gone (publicly) and next year Tony Blair will be..
He of course intellectually knows & knew all of this, but I think there is time for pause.. he is a deep man that so few in media/libs give him any credit for.
He realizes his value probably wont be universally accepted in his lifetime & that is sad. But he is a student of history & knows it will treat him well.
Just another perspective
It's hard not to like people from the Midwest, don't you think? They tend to have such good core values.
I think you are right. :)
What?? The Bushes didn't visit the Jon Carry exhibit in the communist Vietnamese hall of heroes??
Great DOSE this evening!
Thank you for posting these extraordinary photos of an EXTRAORDINARY PRESIDENT and his beautiful First Lady!!
Just got home from the movie theater: Hubby and I saw the new James Bond movie -- LOVED IT! [I won't say anything more; I don't want to ruin it for those who haven't yet seen it!]
It's been a long day . . . so I'm heading to bed -- I'll post my 'Must Reads' tomorrow night!
[BTW: It's been a great day to be an Ohioan! Ohio State beat Michigan and the University of Cincinnati is in the process of beating Rutgers (ranked and previously unbeaten)!!]
Hi Bonaparte! Good to see you weighing in here. Even if it has to be because of Jon Halp Us Carry < imagine green guy barfing here, I spare you the graphic >.
