This article from today's Washington ComPost says a lot in what it refuses to actually come out and admit:
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/01/27/AR2007012700629.html
The block of space they refer to DOES NOT hold tens of thousands of people, even if they are standing on top of one another's shoulders. I was on the Mall during the September 2005 protest the article refers to (due to that nasty socialist Cindy Sheehan, the protest intentionally coincided with our wonderful First Lady's National Book Festival) and there were absolutely no more than 20,000 people attending for protest purposes. I have to say, I don't think more than 10,000 were there for the protest event, but I'm no expert.
I have another frame of reference for this as well, as I did live here during the Million Man March, and you can tell the difference. I worked downtown, and while there were not a million people here for that, that crowd was certainly in the tens of thousands, and the difference is palpable. It was noticeably more crowded everywhere in the area, and even more apparent because it was held on a workday.
These people are not only treasonous, they have proven time and again to be dishonest in their intentions, their means (rent-a-protestor is real, there was actually an article in the ComPost last February that quoted homeless people who were brought in from other states on buses) are disgraceful, and not all, but many of them are crass, and a scary minority of them behave as anarchists.
This is all most unfortunate. Peace is a wonderful cause, and our soldiers are on the frontlines sacrificing their lives to acheive it, as most of you already know.
