House panel votes to subpoena Rice on Iraq

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. Democratic lawmakers voted on Wednesday to subpoena Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice to testify about administration justifications for the U.S. invasion of Iraq in 2003.

On a party-line vote of 21-10, the House of Representatives' Oversight and Government Reform Committee directed Rice to appear before the panel next month.

Republicans accused Democrats of a "fishing expedition." But Democrats said they want Rice to explain what she knew about administration's warnings, later proven false, that Iraq had sought uranium from Niger for nuclear arms.

"Democrats said they want Rice to explain what she knew about administration's warnings, later proven false, that Iraq had sought uranium from Niger for nuclear arms."

This statement by Reuters itself is "False". Just an out-and-out lie. It is just outrageous.

They want her under oath so they can try and bust her if she makes any claim that doesn’t fall under the moonbat version.

I think Rice should claim racism and call in Jackson and Sharpton to attack the House Panel over this... :-)

Hasn’t she already DONE this??? Good grief! Why are the Republicans pointing out how Dems are wasting time and not doing the job they were elected to do?

I, for one, would rather they waste their time.

Dems are out to criminalize conservatives/Republicans. This is what happens when you play nice with these bastards. New tone, etc. - what a load of crap - look what it got us.

The proper response from the president is to invoke Executive privilidge and go to court.

The guts to do this was lost when Tom DeLay left.

If they find out Rice had no good reason for her positions, does that mean we get a do-over and the invasion never happened?

She should just forget everything like Gonzales did.

It is the easiest way to trivialize these show trials and it is recommended behavior for someone who is testifying under oath without the counsel of a lawyer.

Of course, if Bush had some balls, he would have told Congress to pound sand.

Reuters needs to run a correction for this whopper.

The Democrats are traitors to our country. Their every action is calculated to undermine our government in time of war, thus giving aid and comfort to our enemies while making it even more dangerous for our soldiers and Marines to fight the Islamofascists. They're wasting millions of taxpayer dollars on spurious "investigations" of events that include no actual crime. They are traitors, and they are not only unpatriotic, but anti-patriotic.

I hope Condi will be fully prepared to refute their idiotic "questions", so she can get back to doing her job.

That should have been 'aren't'. :) As much as I want the Dems to continue to make fools of themselves, I don't want to see a summer riddled with impeachment hearings. The irony is, they want to do to the Bush Admin exactly what was done to Clinton in his last two years on office. If they weren't so damn predictable, the Dems would be funny.

The dems don't want to truth. They want revenge.

Condi should send the “subpoena” back with a note informing she doesn’t intend to play the democrats’ games, but she will answer all written questions the democrats think have not already been answered 1000 times. Then she could suggest the democrats retire to a back room, grease-up, and “subpoena” each other into ecstasy.

"But Democrats said they want Rice to explain what she knew about administration's warnings, later proven false, that Iraq had sought uranium from Niger for nuclear arms."

Proven false? Where has it been proven false that Iraqi officials did not go to Niger and inquire about obtaining uranium? Does someone have a link?
