Democrats applaud Rice's meeting with Syrian (Pelosi's Sec. of State impersonation vindicated)

Democrats enjoyed rhetorical revenge Thursday after Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice met Syria's foreign minister, just a month after President Bush and many congressional Republicans lambasted House Speaker Nancy Pelosi for traveling to Damascus.

Rice's meeting in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt, "is a marked improvement in the administration's ostrich policy approach, and a tacit admission of how wrong it was last month in criticizing the speaker of the House and congressional colleagues, including myself, for going to Damascus,'' said Rep. Tom Lantos, D-San Mateo.

Pelosi, D-San Francisco, and Lantos led a bipartisan House delegation in a meeting with Syrian President Bashar Assad. The meeting came about the same time four House Republicans traveled to Syria separately to meet with Assad, whose government the administration assails as a sponsor of terrorism that is helping to destabilize Iraq and Lebanon.

Until Rice's meeting, Bush had banned high-level diplomacy with Syria for the past few years. However, he came under criticism in the Iraq Study Group report late last year, which called for a diplomatic offensive to encourage Syria and Iran, another nation Bush scorns, to help improve conditions in Iraq.

But Bush and other Republicans zeroed in on Pelosi with criticism for conducting her own foreign policy, and some of it was repeated Thursday. House Minority Leader John Boehner, R-Ohio, said the Pelosi-Lantos delegation's visit to Syria differed from that of the House Republicans in its intent.

"I believe her intention in going there was just to embarrass the administration. That's why I was critical of her,'' Boehner said.

But Rep. Dave Hobson, R-Ohio, who was the lone Republican traveling with Pelosi and Lantos during a congressional recess, rejected that criticism.

"I didn't sense we went there to embarrass the president. If I felt that way, I would not have gone,'' Hobson

This is BS. Pelosi went to Damascus conducting her own foreign policy, not to mention misstating Israels intentions regarding peace talks. Condi did a high level meeting with the Syrian official on the sidelines of a planned conference in Egypt, not Damascus. As far as I am concerned, Condi was undoing the damage Pelosi did.

Looks like damage control following Pelosi’s visit.

What's next on the traitors' itinerary, Tom? Clinking glasses with the Janjaweed in Darfur? A lapdance, in Pyongyang?

Condi was giving the Syrians a short course in American civics, specifically the danger in paying attention to people who are not authorized to deal in questions of foreign policy.

What an assinine article.

Pelosi was elected by a freak city in California. She represents them and only them. She has no business speaking for the rest of the country. No other state voted for her to do anything else. She's a pathetic pee-on compared to Condoleeza.

Meetings in Syria, and every other nation in the world, is Condoleezas job! That's what she's suppose to do. She speaks for the whole country.

. . . , he said, when he was caught stuffing the blueprints to Annapolis and West Point back into the filing cabinet.

Embarrass the administration???

Committing treason is what she did. The PRESIDENT sets and conducts foreign policy. The same way that the PRESIDENT is the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces.

The shadow government will continue until SOMEONE with the CONSTITUTIONAL authority to stop them acts!

No, Tom, you lying SOB, this isn't tacit admission of wrong. As a Congressman, it is NOT your job to negotiate with a Foreign Government. That is the job of the Executive Branch.

In my opinion, the Sec. of State is over there right now trying to repair the damage done by your little visit to our enemies. Syria is our enemy - that is what you call people who are assisting those who are killing our troops in Iraq.

Not likely

On 28 April 2006, Lantos, along with four other members of Congress and six other activists, was arrested for disorderly conduct in front of the Sudanese embassy in Washington. They were protesting the alleged role of Sudan's government in ethnic cleansing in Darfur.

What a peculiar fellow Lantos is.

Protests ethnic cleansing in Darfur yet ingratiates himself with Assad- who wants to ethnically cleanse 'Palestine', of Jews.

So why did Hobson go with Pelosi, therby providing a Republican participant in this traitorous gang??

Could it have been that he was informed that, if he went, the Democrats would give him a pass in his Congresssional District in Northern Ohio??

Perish the thought...

Yes, what a peculiar fellow.

An interesting article appeared in the "Jerusalem Post" under the heading "Holocaust Supplement" about Tom Lantos.

Dr. Rice’s intention is to stabilize the Middle East.

Pelosi’s intention was to destabilize America.
