He's been a Marine for forty years. Those types of Marines don't tend to back down, if they believe that what they are doing is right. To back down in such a situation would be cowardly. By all accounts, General Pace is not a coward.

Somehow methinks he was dumped not because of what he would have said of the past but for what he might say about the future. Let's say he was in the line of Generals that got the 'Shinsecki'.
