Hatch says Stevens got 'screwed' (and the GOP lost a Senate seat because of it)

Utah Sen. Orrin Hatch said Wednesday his friend and former colleague Ted Stevens was "screwed" by the United States Justice Department, hours after Attorney General Eric Holder announced he was dropping all charges against the former Alaska senator.

"Here's a guy who gave better than 60 years service to the country and was screwed," Hatch told reporters on Capitol Hill. "Screwed by our own Justice Department."

Hatch went on to praise Holder for dropping the charges and "fixing this foul situation."

"fixing this foul situation."

That would require the winner of the election stepping down and offering to face Stevens in a new election.

It was the republican justice department that went after Stevens, the democrats who let him go.

The AG on duty at the time was Michael Mukasey, true? Bush’s final AG?

and the GOP should have road to his defense instead of throwing him under the bus just because a prosecutor was a Republican appointee.

I’m still waiting for them to drop the charges against Rick Renzi here in Arizona. The Communists got his seat. That’s all the Commie pigs wanted. The ‘RATS are now using our fraudulent “justice system” to get the seats that they want but can’t win.

I’d like to know who the prosecutors were that worked on the case.

If Stevens did something wrong, he deserves punishment.

That is true and every time the Rats yelled something was “illegal”, Bush and his AG ran to give them assistance in the investigations but refused to investigate or prosecute Senators like Reid.

The whole point of prosecution was, what was the value of the add-ons? and should Steven's reported in in disclosure forms?
According to the withheld evidence the add-on didn't increase the value and therefore no reporting was needed.

They did the same thing to Curt Weldon in PA.

It's SOP for these Statists.

It went EXACTLY as I predicted. The Dems throw up false accusations, the pansy Bush AG follows up with it. The Clinton appointee Judge disallows evidence that might exonerate Stevens.
The loaded jury decides to get that Republican "Fat Cat". They convict him on the flimsiest of evidence.

RIGHT BEFORE THE ELECTION!!

A job well done, one less Republican in the Senate.

One day the GOP will have to learn to fight back or else they will be the permanent minority party.

The judge in the case, as I remember, was on a slow boil throughout the proceedings because of the incompetence and rampant corruption of the defense. He should have declared a mistrial. I don't know why he didn't; he came close. It was from the beginning a political game to get Senator Stevens out of the Senate. They won.
Senator Stevens, if you're listening, God bless you!

I think 60 years is plenty, Orrin. And you've been there too long, as well. We need term limits and a retirement age for all members of Congress.
