Back in the fall, you would have thought from the media coverage of the TARP debate and its eventual passage that some sort of crime had been committed when the House didn't pass it the first time around.

"CBS Evening News" anchor Katie Couric demanded to know from House Minority Leader John Boehner, "What in the world are you people doing?" on her Sept. 29 broadcast. However, there was a side to this that people never were allowed to realize behind closed doors during the debate, as Fox News host Glenn Beck explained.

The "Glenn Beck Show" host on his April 20 program told viewers he had inside knowledge of how the Bush administration strong-armed the banks into agreeing to the terms of the TARP bailout.

Would have been nice if some journalist asked the questions or bank president stepped forward and spoke up when the government was playing strong-arm tactics...

And as if that were not enough, now the Obama administration is strong-arming banks not to pay their TARP back.

With the exception of his military action against terrorist networks, GWB was a real disappointment.

In fact, the case can be made that he did this Nation several real disservices. (Patriot Act, bailouts, Medicare prescriptions, etc).

I think I heard Glenn mention that he’s getting his info from a bank president who is a friend of his. Evidently the bank president wants to give the money back and Geithner won’t let the bank do it.

Judge Napolitano of FOX had a similar story which made it to youtube. Napolitano said the bank exec fought his board over accepting the funds, but they did not want the problem of audits even if the bank would come up clean.

IIRC, Judge Napolitano has said the bail out process has been criminally indictable extortion.

They still needed the money, but the banks were upset that the government actually *GASP!!!!!* put conditions on paying back the money. Oh the horror that those who helped wreck the US economy would have to payback their bailout with some interest or that they will have to provide proof that they won’t need another one later this year.

Rush also reported this some time ago.

I am most puzzled by President Bush on this. I remember when President Bush had the meeting in September that included McCain and obama, the one where obama had been apparently briefed on info beforehand that McCain wasn’t briefed on. The look on President Bush’s face was described as being “shook up”. I just always wonder if there is so much more to the story that we don’t know.

I vacilate between thinking it was a giantic robbery of the wealth of the average citizen under the guise of a credit crisis, OR was is a deliberate attack by the Soros bunch with threats of more if the money wasn't forthcoming.......

all in all, we got screwed.....

as for Bush.....I'll never in a million years understand him nor what he did......he did well to take on the terrorist, but that's about it....
