Bristol Palin Is Uninvited
Human Events ^ | 1/28/10 | John Hayward

Washington University in St. Louis is planning a “Student Sexual Responsibility Week” next month. They decided to invite Sarah Palin’s daughter Bristol to speak about abstinence at the event. Bristol is the Teen Abstinence Ambassador for The Candie’s Foundation, a group dedicated to preventing teen pregnancy.

(snip)

Campus leftists immediately tugged on their jackboots and flew into a towering pillar of rage. Today they were able to intimidate the university and Palin into calling off her appearance – the latest evidence that campus liberals could teach Hosni Mubarak a thing or two about suppressing dissent.

(snip)

The nominal reason given by the campus conformity police was that inviting Palin to speak would be too expensive.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that Palin has signed up with Single Source Speakers, where she should command “between $15,000 and $30,000 per speech.” The same report notes that the Student Union Treasury allocated $20,000 to sponsor the panel featuring Palin. It sounds like they were getting her for a discount price, since some of that twenty grand would have to be spent on other aspects of hosting the panel.

(snip)

Another claim made by the campus left is that Palin was “too controversial” to speak, a consideration that obviously doesn’t apply to people like Van Jones.

Freedom of speech has been reserved for liberals and politically correct people.

I wonder if it’s possible to start suing these people for interfering with the ability to conduct business? I’m not big on lawsuits, but give them a taste of their own medicine. I’m sick to death of them.

Is Bristol a poster child for the effectiveness of abstinence? People who think most teenagers can be talked into ignoring their powerful hormonal urges are in denial. I raised two boys to be responsible people. They married in their mid twenties, never got anyone pregnant except their wives.

We have a culture which actively promotes a "sex positive" lifestyle. Homosexuals? Don't be a hater! Adults and children? Why not?

It's Sex, Sex, Sex. If you're not "getting any" then you're not normal.

Abstinence education is about self-respect and self-control. It's about fighting back against a debauched culture. If practiced perfectly, it provides perfect birth control. If not practiced perfectly, pregnancy is a possibility. HOWEVER, even if practiced imperfectly, people benefit from less participation is a culture obsessed with sexual release.

Bristol Palin makes a valuable contribution, and speaks with real experience about what can happen to a young person.

It bothers me when people feel that "powerful hormonal urges" cannot be controlled. We are not animals.

So, I called the university and told them that if some didn’t want to hear her speech, they didn’t have to show up, but there is NO reason to disinvite her..

Did You call?????

(314) 935-5000

Or did you just come here and whine about it?

More censorhsip by the tolerance, diversity crowd. Another report notes:

[Kate] Walsh a member of the Planned Parenthood Federation of America, urged her Twitter followers Wednesday to protest Palin’s possible appearance...Hollywood publicist Angie Meyer said Palin was being targeted by Walsh and the protesting students not because of her convictions regarding abstinence, but because of her “controversial” last name.

I knew this would happen as soon as it was reported she was invited to speak. The libtard fascists are so predictable.

Bristol merely makes them uncomfortable beyond their ability to bear.

Bristol is such a glaring example of responsibility, integrety and honor which any leftist can never match...and they all know it.

The left always takes the easiest way to make themselves "feel better"....and in this case, the easiest way to rest their minds is to silence Bristol.

teens will definitely listen and learn from one who has been there, done that - whether it as an abstinence speaker or Howard Stern disciple.

It would be ‘interesting’ if a more open-minded organization were to host a competing event across the street, at the same time — and with Bristol as the featured speaker.

Young people cannot be “talked into” controlling their urges. They can, however, be given an alternative ideal which, if they buy into it gives them a genuine reason to do so.

“Talking them into it” sounds like it’s possible to convince them by the equivalent of “public service announcements.” That won’t happen. Requires a deep change in the person to develop a powerful enough motivation to overcome the natural urges.

And of course they have to want to do so. Can’t be imposed from outside. Health statistics and gabble about possible future negative feelings just aren’t enough.

good points. They are not comfortable with Bristol Palin and her message.

Bristol acknowledges mistakes. She acknowledges that she got pregnant without a husband. She is trying to give a message to other young people, to encourage them to avoid her mistakes in life.

Keith Olbermann once named her the worst person in the world, for having a baby and talking about abstinence for young people to avoid the problem. Hypocrisy, said Olbermann.

Olbermann and liberals hatred of Bristol Palin says more about them than it does about Bristol Palin.
