Big Labor bosses are considering opening their unions to non-members in an effort to create an omnibus organization of both union and non-union members, according to a liberal journalist.
The AFL-CIO is preparing for a national convention in September at which it will consider opening its ranks to workers who arent members of or represented by unions, or (sic) creating an omnibus organization of both union members and non-members, wrote Harold Meyerson in an American Prospect article last week....

in other words, they are creating the Union of Welfare Entitlement Recipients
Turn out the lights, the party’s over. This was the goal of the Knights of Labor and it failed miserably.
Kinda like the German labor front bringing everyone into the union.
But don’t all dues paying union members start out as non-union workers? What are they gonna do, give full union benefits to non-dues paying members? This is such bullshit.
Gee! This is pretty neat....non-union/union workers.
I bet that somehow these non-union workers will have to pay to be a non-union/union worker.
However, the main benefit of joining will be that they no longer have to work hard at their job along with learning to hate their employer and other non-union workers who aren’t part of the union and non-union workers.
Wow! What a novel idea!
Trumka is a terrorist. He led the United Mine Workers in a strike that was actually a terrorist attack on the coal companies. They wore camo uniforms as did their wives and mothers and children. The blew uo electric substations. They destroyd property of supervisors, they occupied company property.
Hahaha is right. They cannot support their current bloat on their dwindling numbers.
Trumpka needs to buy a forehead. Quintessential face of a union thug.
Follow the money.
These people have no principles or ethics.
So the union movement in the US stayed focused on improving the wages and working conditions of its workers, where the unions in Europe quickly ended up chasing the leftist pipe-dreams of reorganizing society, to the detriment of the actual workers.
Until, of course, we legalized public sector unions, and things went all wonky over here, as well...
Beware...Greeks...gifts...
Well, they gotta do something to bolster their rapidly dwindling membership.
I take this as a good sign for the free market.
I bet that somehow these non-union workers will have to pay to be a non-union/union worker.
Yup, you nailed it. It's a way to bloat their numbers and their funds, while at the same time not being obligated to actually represent the "non-union union members." All these second class members get is a spiffy decal to put on their car window. I was in a union like that: they took our dues, but when push came to shove they wouldn't represent us, so we all quit (which they whined about because of the sudden loss of income for them).
In other words, they are morphing into a leftist political party.
Going to start their own Labo(u)r Party and begin taking some shots in primaries against vulnerable Dems. To show how P.O.-ed they are at the bait-and-switch on Card Check.
A lot of the union hardheads I know are as cheesed-off at the Dems as we are at the RINO GOP.
Such an organization already exists: AARP
Many of the US packing plants have this. The workers don't belong to the union and don't pay dues but their is a union rep with access to the workers and who will represent the workers.
The premise is that the workers will eventually vote to unionize.
After GW Bush raided the Smithfield Ham plant in the N Carolina, those workers did vote in the union.
