Media reporting of poll/election results from some states before other states’ polls are closed has been deemed prejudicial to the states still open for voting. That is why the media is prohibited from reporting any results until ALL states polls are closed. That is my understanding.
You have apparently never watched election results come in before.
This election will be called way before Alaska (not to mention Hawaii) is finished voting.
It goes by a state by state basis. The media has agreed not to post results until a particular state’s polls close. They will not wait until 1:00 am Eastern.
Instead....make all states uniform for a Presidential election....On the first Monday and Tuesday in November after the first Tuesday. Too much cheating going on and everyone knows it.
No, the media has agreed among themselves to not call a state until that state's poll has closed. There is no law for or against it.
They violated this agreement in 2000, when they called Florida after the polls closed in the Eastern time zone. But, the Florida panhandle is in the Central time zone.
The pandhandle is also heavily conservative. Many people literally got out of line and went home. If they hadn't done that, there probably wouldn't have been any "hanging chads" controversy, because Bush would have decisively won the state.
