Canada filed a challenge to the U.S. tariffs on steel and aluminum with the World Trade Organization on Friday and said it will request a Chapter 20 panel under the North American Free Trade Agreement on Friday in response to the U.S. move.

"These unilateral tariffs, imposed under a false pretext of safeguarding U.S. national security, are inconsistent with the United States international trade obligations and WTO rules," Foreign Minister Chrystia Freeland said in a statement.

"Canada will closely collaborate with the European Union, which also filed a WTO challenge today, as well as with other like-minded countries, on opposing these tariffs," she added.

Time to get our forests up to par instead of letting them burn.

Might be a good time to resurrect the CCC Camps. Make it dual functioning...leading to a degree in forestry.

Nobody can force us to buy their crap. Going to the WTO means nothing, China had been reported constantly and nothing happens to them

They charge us tariffs why can’t we charge them. If they want to get rid of steel tariffs all they have to do is get rid of the charges on our stuff. And if these people think they can’t gang up on us, even if the tariffs are removed we don’t have to buy crap made in their countries

It's nothing but staging a globalist “collective” front against Trumps America First Agenda. Just as they're doing at the UN.

We need to be prepared for some bumps while Trump does his work in this...and we might feel a few of those....he did say we might.... but I figure we all have to put some skin in this game for the long term results ‘for our country’....

They stand to lose far more than the US in any trade war and they know it. Bluster and BS worked in the past with prior administrations who were onboard with weakening the US and making it dependent upon the rest of the world. The United States is, however, quite capable of providing for it’s own needs and would be the better for doing so long term. They need our market, and are dependent upon it. We don’t need theirs, we are not dependent upon it. The US is by far and away a net importer, not a net exporter. These are net exporters threatening their primary customer. Stupid, if you stop and think about it.

If I am Trump, here is my response to the WTO challenges:

The US hereby withdraws from the WTO.

The current issue of Forbes has a long article on a California company that purchases the rights to log burned forests and convert the logs to lumber. The company stockpiles the lumber in vast yards until sold.

The burning is not a net loss of timber

Keeping a finger to hold the US place is a good thing....

Saw Nikki Haleys hand raised as the only one who voted for the US in the Israeli Palestinian thing. Disgusting me all the further on the uselessness of the UN. The WTO is going that direction as it's full of those hopping into China's pockets. They want North America as 'one unified' trading block with open borders.

Trumps asking for “FAIR” trade..not elimination of “free” trade....the distinction is important.

They’re upset because he pulled out of the TTP ‘agreement’ which really wasn’t a treaty or legit to begin with.

Actually it's political posturing.....Europe is bellying up to China's reach with their Belt and Road Initiative etc. and China's been ‘heavy’ with their International Propoo-ganda promoting it worldwide..as well a gazillion meetings with leaders.....

Then there's Kerry, Hillary and Bo dipping their tongues throughout the World stage with leaders.

This is New World order stuff vs. the Sovereinty of Nations.

I'm a best use person. Makes little sense to burn and salvage a piece of the cake when you can have the whole cake.

And a spotted owl sure doesn't rate superiority over a lumbering industry.

..... LOL ...... See a trend yet???

.... Once again, The president created massive leverage where there seemingly wasn't any. Sounds like the entire world is ready to talk Tariffs and trade with the US now.

.... Yup ..... Trump will let them stew for a while with the initial knee jerk reactions .... Then eventually one of the countries, Canada perhaps, will take the bait and request a meeting. One by one, The rest of the sniveling nations will have to take a number to get in line for the negotiations.

might get a bit rough for some industries etc. here for a time. Try and buy American even if costs a bit more. Small price to put our own skin in the game when Pres. Trump has given up his lifestyle and to do this giving away his paycheck to organizations and work for nothing.

“They’re upset because he pulled out of the TTP ‘agreement’ which really wasn’t a treaty or legit to begin with.”

One of the most important things he’s done so far. TTP was a true disaster for the American People.

Not only economically but in loss of sovereignty .

Trump should consider withdrawing from the WTO as a 2020 campaign issue. When he wins re-election, he can say he has a mandate to withdraw.

For now, all he needs to do is say, the US will not participate in any WTO panels regarding our national security issues and will ignore any WTO rulings on such.

Only the US gets to decide what is in our national security interests, not the WTO.
