Russia filed a lawsuit with the World Trade Organization (WTO) against duties imposed by the United States on steel and aluminum. Russia also requested consultations with the United States in the framework of the WTO dispute settlement procedure, Russian Economic Development Minister Maxim Oreshkin said on Friday.
Oreshkin added that, in addition to Russia, China, India, the European Union, Canada, Mexico, and Norway had earlier filed complaints against the United States with the WTO.

This certainly provides an additional reason to get out of the WTO.

My understanding is that the WTO allows the imposition of import tariffs in the face of chronic trade tariffs. I suspect what Trump has done is legal within the WTO framework.
Nevertheless get us out of the WTO. I want to know where food originated, not that it was “distributed” by some US firm. I don’t want to sue the distributor if I get sick and if I can prove it. I want to not get sick in the first place.

It’s not a lawsuit. It’s just a complaint. WTO does not make law and has NO JURISDICTION. It is a glorified NGO and has no power over America. If Russia wants to do something about our protection of American businesses, they can stop selling us space access, or sail an aircraft carrier into the Atlantic. Now that would be a projection of power.
