McConnell fires back at Jon Stewart over 9/11 victims fund
NY Post ^ | June 17, 2019 | 12:18pm | Mark Moore

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said he doesn’t know why Jon Stewart is so “bent out of shape” over securing health care for 9/11 responders, saying the Senate will “take care” of the September 11 Victim Compensation Fund.

The former host of “The Daily Show,” who pleaded with House lawmakers last week to reauthorize the fund, questioned whether McConnell would ensure its passage in the GOP-controlled upper chamber.

Stewart: McConnell playing politics with 9/11 responders “He has always held out until the last minute, and only then after intense lobbying and public shaming has he even deigned to move on it,” Stewart told “Fox News Sunday.”

McConnell, a Republican from Kentucky, reacted by saying that “many things in Congress happen at the last minute.”

“We have never failed to address this issue. And we will address it again,” McConnell said on “Fox & Friends” Monday. “I don’t know why he’s all bent out of shape. We will take care of the 9/11 Victim Compensation Fund.”

He was asked why there were few members of the House Judiciary subcommittee on hand when Stewart testified last Tuesday.

“That frequently happens because members have a lot of things going on at the same time,” McConnell said. “It sounds to me like he is looking for some way to take offense.”

“There is no way we won’t address this problem appropriately,” he continued.

But they are from NYC!

I kind of felt like Stewart had a point, until I realized that the bill was going to pass the house by a huge margin (it ended up unanimous.)

That news had to have been communicated to the Fund’s people. That said, if I told someone we did not have to meet in person to finish the deal; that had already signed the check authorization-—then the person should not get upset when I don’t show up for his sales presentation.

Don’t misunderstand me, I support the fund and its benefactors. But, there is little need for drama over it.

Just another New York grifter scam. I’m sure there are some legitimate claims here and there. But this fund draws a boundary in New York, and if you were inside it and any of the following conditions develop 17 years down the road...they ASSUME it was caused by 9/11. Scammers.

Rare Cancers
Any type of cancer that occurs in less than 15 cases per 100,000 persons per year (called the “incidence rate”) based on data from 2005-2009 as referenced in Copeland et al., Cancer in North America: 2005-2009 average annual data, are considered rare cancers. These cancers are eligible for certification by the WTC Health Program. Below are cancer types that have been determined to meet the threshold incidence rate for rare cancers. However, this compilation is not exhaustive. Other types of cancer which meet the definition of a rare cancer, but which are not on the List or identified below, may also be considered for certification. Every cancer submitted for certification which is not individually identified in the above list is reviewed by the WTC Health Program to assess if it meets the definition of a rare cancer.

Therefore, for the purposes of the WTC Health Program, the Administrator has determined that the category “Rare Cancers” includes, but is not limited to, the following types of cancer:

Malignant neoplasms of the—
adrenal gland and other endocrine glands and related structures
anus and anal canal
bone and articular cartilage
breast among men
gallbladder and other parts of biliary tract
meninges, brain, spinal cord, cranial nerves, and other parts of central nervous system
pancreas
penis and testis
placenta
small intestine
thymus
vulva, vagina, and cervix uteri (invasive only)
Malignant neuroendocrine neoplasm, including carcinoid tumors
Myeloid neoplasms, including myelodysplastic syndromes, myeloproliferative neoplasms, myelodysplastic/myeloproliferative neoplasms, and myeloid malignancies associated with eosinophilia and abnormalities of growth factor receptors derived from platelets or fibroblasts
The WTC Health Program has developed a Policy and Procedure document for Rare Cancers that defines the list above. If you would like more information on Rare Cancers, please refer to the Policy and Procedure document.

Acute stress disorder
Adjustment disorder
Anxiety disorder (not otherwise specified)
Depression (not otherwise specified)
Dysthymic disorder
Generalized anxiety disorder
Major depressive disorder
Panic disorder

Musculoskeletal Disorders
Note: Only WTC Responders are eligible to be certified for musculoskelatal disorders. The disorder must be related to your 9/11 work and you must have proof that you received medical care for the injury before September 11, 2003.

This is only a little piece of the 9-11 fund.....and there’s a year and a half left on the 5 year term. It appears that this has become the “Medicaid” of 9-11.

“I realized that the bill was going to pass the house by a huge margin (it ended up unanimous.)”

If a bill is unanimous that almost guarantees it was bad law, and that nobody dared oppose it for PR reasons.

Not to sound harsh, but don’t these firemen have the best health insurance going? Unless this is volunteers they are talking about who had no health insurance?

When my family member got injured, he had no victim compensation fund?

Is New York privileged royalty?

Why are New York tragedies so special but the rest of our tragedies, they get NO FEDERAL VICTIM COMPENSATION fund?

Where is our privilege??

Hypothetical , but had the first responders been warned that smoke from wreckage was deadly, would there have been enough protective equipment to all wanting to find survivors... locate the dead.
