My position on this war has been clear from the onset: I believe it is in the best interests of the American people that Russia prevail and that the US stays out of it.

But I can’t help but wonder...did these guys clearing mines by hand volunteer for this work? Or, are they conscripts compelled to do it?

If they are volunteers, I admire their bravery.

I would think it depends, if experts are available, or advanced methods are available then they are, if they aren’t and the unit has no other option then the guys on the spot would do what we all used to be expected to do.
